Robert Henry Laporte, 85, formerly of North Attleboro and a resident of Taunton since 1996, died November 30, 2008 at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Minerva (Madden) Laporte to whom he was married on August 25, 1945.

Born in North Attleboro, MA he was the son of the late Felix and Hannah (Schmeckel) Laporte. He was a 1942 graduate of North Attleboro High School.

A carpenter by trade, he worked for his father and his brother, Howard, in the construction business until 1959. He then became employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro, where he worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of the Thomas P. McDonough Council of the Knights of Columbus in North Attleboro for more than fifty years.

In addition to his wife of sixty-three years, he is survived by his son: David Laporte, Sr. and his wife, Denise, of Waterford, Maine; his daughter: Katheryn Viens, and her husband, Paul Viens, of Attleboro and his grandchildren: Thomas Laporte of Attleboro, Todd Laporte of Groveland, Darren Laporte of Lewiston, Maine, Randy Brown of Ada, Oklahoma, Carolyn Brown of Oxford, Maine, Sam Brown of Waterford, Maine and Gregory Viens of Attleboro. He was pre-deceased in 2004 by his grandson, David Laporte, Jr.

He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Ryan and Sean Laporte, Kaleb Laporte and Caiden Laporte, Raven Brown, Paige Westleigh, Frank Fields and Alexis and Ethan Brown; his sister and brother-in-law: Eleanor and Richard Coffey of Plymouth and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Children’s room available during visitation.

Those in need of a local ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, December 4, 2008, on what would have been his 86th birthday, at 11:00 AM from the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Park Street, North Attleboro with the Rev. David Costa, Pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.

Following cemetery services, family and friends will be welcomed to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
