Robert Layton Obituary

LaytonDec 31, 1921 - Dec 27, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY In loving memory of Robert Earl "Bob" Layton, age 89, who went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. Bob was born Dec. 31, 1921 to Roscoe and Clara Layton in Indianapolis, IN. He was the last survivor among his eight siblings. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, with the 1892nd Engineering Aviation Battalion stationed in the South Pacific. Bob came to Oklahoma City following WWII and attended Blackwood Business School. He worked at OK Furniture, Hotpoint/GE and after retirement worked part time for Howard Brothers Florist. Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dean; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeff Long, and Vickie and Robert Gulikers; four grandsons, six great-grandchildren in the Oklahoma City area, three step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren in the Omaha, NE area; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gayle and Frank Lemons; and two nieces. Bob was a longtime member of Southwest Baptist Church until his health no longer permitted him to attend. He will be remembered as a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather and a trusted friend with a great sense of humor. Bob loved golf and Indy 500 racing and always told us, "Let your conscience be your guide." Bob's memory will be honored at a private family service on Dec. 30, 2011, where he will be gently laid to rest.
