Robert Leonard Levi, 88, of East Flat Rock went to his heavenly home Wednesday morning, June 7, 2017, after a long period of declining health. Born in the Mountain Valley community of Henderson County, R. L. was the son of the late Gurley G. and Lucinda Ward Levi. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sarah Boone Levi, brothers Orval, Walter, and William Levi, and sisters Pauline Levi Allison Maybin, and Ruby Levi Heatherly.
R. L. served inthe U. S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War era. Military experiences greatly impacted his love for family, neighbors, and country. He became a friend to all with a humorous wit and encouraging manner. After completing military service, R. L. worked 39 years for Cranston Print Works, retiring in 1992. Retirement was a time of serving others in his church and community. Whether gardening, building, or repairing almost anything, R. L. made life better for those around him. He especially treasuredhis grandsons and invested time and love in them. He was an active member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church for more than fifty years where he gladly served Christ in the nursery, preschool, and Awana programs.
Survivors include his son Bruce and daughter-in-law Collette Levi of Flat Rock, grandsons Tim Levi of Duncan, SC, and Brett Levi of Clemson, SC, brother Leroy Levi (Phyllis) of Flat Rock, sister Geneva Levi Gordon of Tuxedo, and sister-in-law Willa Mae Boone of Tuxedo, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family thanks Dr. Ron Moffitt, his compassionate team members Katrina, Brenda, and Gwen, Dr. Navin Anthony and the skilled professionals at Hendersonville Hematology and Oncology at Pardee, and everyone at Carolina Mountain Gastroenterology. Your insightful and tireless efforts afforded R. L. several extra years of worthwhile living. We greatly appreciate the loving staff members of Life Care Center of Hendersonville and Carolina Village Medical Center. Finally, we are greatly indebted to and thankful for Geneva L. Gordon who spent many hours helping herbig brother during his long illness.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 3:00 PM, at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Joe Boone officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Mausoleum Chapel.
