Not sure what to say?

I was Mr. Lewinter´s student almost 40 years ago. He sparked my interest in the law (with his class You and the Law) and inspired me to become a lawyer. I am grateful to have known him.

Bob was one of the main elements that made my week at the presidential classroom for young Americans in the mid-70s memorable: some people didn´t know how to deal with me, being blind, but Bob cared, and we spoke Russian, which I was hoping later to incorporate into a career, which I would´ve loved to have been able to tell him I was successful at. He was most encouraging and knowledgeable as others here have said. I´m sorry I couldn´t have thought to look him up sooner to expressed in a more...

Am currently sifting through photos and came across material from my 1977 trip to Presidential Classroom in Washington DC. Mr. Lewinter was the Section G Chaperone/Leader. 46 years later, I remember his smile, humor, curiosity, and interest in us personally. Frank Fitzsimmons, then head of the Teamsters, spoke to us one evening. I asked a question about violence during the recent Teamsters strike and Mr. Fitzsimmons didn't like my question at all. His response parted my hair. That evening,...

I was a student of the Russian Language at Pascack Hills and Mr. Lewinter's organized a trip to the former Soviet Union for students in 1973/1974. Mr. Lewinter was a true character, an engaging teach, and a good friend to many. He brought life to his classes with costumes, hats, and other antics which the students loved. My mom also worked in the district and always had a funny story about "Bob," (we weren't allowed to use first names). RIP Mr. Lewinter.

My deepest sympathy to the family on Bob's passing. As a reporter for the Local Review for quite a number of years, I was in and out of Hills A LOT, especially since I covered the Regional Board of Ed for a number of years.
I thoroughly enjoyed some of the feature articles I did and one memorable one was one about Bob and his trip to Russia. It was quite in-depth and I believe I also had a photo of him in his Russian " chapeau " .
Additionally, I was a Hills "Mom " and both of my...

As a 26- year emp;oyee of the District, as Public Info Officer and varied other jobs, I have many fond memories of Bob. By the way, Joyce Stevenson, who wrote also, is my daughter Joyce Littlefield.
That was one hell of a Social Studies department!!! Swing that mace, Bob!

Mr. Lewinter was one of the most memorable and influential teachers I ever had during my years at PHHS. He did not just teach history--he taught life. His knowledge and passion in the classroom was unparalleled and I tried to take every class he offered. He was the kind of teacher who challenged his students so that each time you left that classroom, you felt proud and accomplished. And who could forget the GIANT peppermint candy sticks he handed out at holiday time?? Where did he find...

I travelled with "Mr." Lewinter to Russia during high school. He was a wonderful man who challenged his students to achieve excellence through hard work and a love of the unknown. I will always remember him fondly as contributing to my drive to strive for higher learning.

With great love,
Joyce Stevenson

To the Family and Friends of Bob Lewinter,

While sadness prevails, many happy memories are flooding back. What a great sense of humor and such a great dimpled grin. What a great sense of self. What a great teacher. What a great man. I fondly recall the funny examples he used for footnotes and bibliographies. He filled a bus full of students to donate blood; and I am still donating 30 yrs. later. How many lives did he save?

Bob was on sabbatical; teaching at the American...
