Robert “Bob” Francis Lundeen, 74, of North Platte, NE passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the MAYO Clinic in Rochester, MN surrounded by his loving and devoted wife and daughters.
Bob was born on March 27, 1949 in Milbank, SD and was the son of Francis Ralph “Bud” Lundeen and Faye Catherine (Hamel) Lundeen. He was raised in Milbank and graduated from Milbank high school in 1967. He spent his entire childhood a block away from Sandra K. Lee, they started dating their senior year of high school and the rest is history…best friends and soulmates. They were married on February 8, 1969 in Kearney, NE and together had two daughters, Tina and Jennifer. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1971 with a BS in Business Administration and Finance.
He has been described as a fierce friend, generous beyond compare, adventurer and force of nature. In his career, Bob was an entrepreneur, risk-taker and leader. He was the CEO for Mid-America Bio Energy based in North Platte but, in the end, he called himself a pipefitter. Bob was most comfortable with the humble title of self-made man and “regular guy”. He was an avid golfer who took up the game at age four and loved playing courses all over the world. On the saltwater in the Pacific Northwest was where Bob became most at peace along with his family and friends. His business travels made it possible for him to visit locations all over the World, he especially enjoyed travels with his wife and family. It was during many of these travels that Bob made lasting and deep friendships which he dearly cherished over the years. Bob was an impeccably dressed gentleman, who lived life to the fullest along with a most generous heart, he was a quiet philanthropist with the many talents and treasure God had given him. He believed that true happiness and success is defined as “self-contentment”, which he certainly had. He was a most beloved husband, father, papa and uncle and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Sandy; daughters, Christina “Tina” Lundeen Smith and husband Steven of Golden, CO, and Jennifer Lundeen Read and husband Prestin of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Stella Gervaise Smith, Scarlett Frances Read, and Tucker Robert Read; sister, Janie Sogioka; brother in law, David Lee (Kelley); sister in law, Jennie Thames Lee; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Faye Lundeen; in laws, Quentin and Gervaise Lee; brother, Douglas Ralph Lundeen; brothers-in-law, Quentin A. Lee and Carl Sogioka; and by a grandson, Sutton Robert Smith.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Platte with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial visitation with the family receiving friends will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31st at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors and nurses at MAYO Clinic for their expert care and treatment. Memorials may be given in memory of Bob to Autism Society of Nebraska.

Sandy and daughters: though I was not able to meet Bob at his best, you painted for us a picture of the admirable, exciting, loving man that he was. You were a fierce advocate for him and stood by his side through thick and thin. He was undoubtably an adventurous and lucky man who lived to the fullest with you by his side. May he and you rest easy now. Best wishes, Katie (Mayo Clinic Palliative Care NP)

Read about Bob's death in our Milbank paper. Knew both the Lee and Lundeen Families when you all lived in Milbank. Although distance separated us for many years I was remembering the few time we had gathered--unfortunately always for funerals. In spite of the occasion it was always good to reacquaint and spend time reminiscing with you and Bob. The conversations were always enlightening and enjoyable. We extend to you our deepest sympathy along with our love and prayers.

We are so so saddened by the loss of Bob. I just watched his celebration of life and pictorial tribute online, as we were unable to attend. Sandy, you and your daughters and family truly honored him. It was beautiful, and so heartwarming. He was such an incredible man, and every time we saw you both, it was just a delight! We loved his wit, and kind ways. Really a fun guy! One of our favorite memories was that day we went to the dance with the band from South Dakota here in North Platte! ...
