Robert E. MacKenzie, - of 41 Bridge St., died Monday, June 7, 2004 unexpectedly in his sleep, at home.

Born March 26, 1922 in Orono, Me. He was the son of Earl and Louise (Burden) MacKenzie. He was educated in the Orono schools, graduating from Orono High School class of 1940. He graduated from the University of Maine class of 1947 with a degree in education.

Mr. Mackenzie and his wife, Helen, moved to Berwick in 1947.

He worked at General Electric Co. in Somersworth, NH for 35 years in various capacities and retired in 1982.

He served in the Marine Corps. during World War II in the Pacific and was discharged as Captain.

He was a member of the 1st Marine Division Assoc., The China Marine Assoc., First Parish Church (Congregational) of Somersworth and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #66 of Orono, Me.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra L. Haskell.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Sherburne) of 59 years, of Berwick, one son; Charles E. MacKenzie of Weare, NH, three grandchildren; Virginia H.Titzer of Bridgeton, Me., Abby and Thomas MacKenzie of Weare, NH, three great-grandchildren; Tauni and twins Tabitha and Jessica Titzer of Bridgeton, Me., one brother; James F. MacKenzie and his wife Helen of Keysville, Va., nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Robert’s name to The First Parish United Church of Christ (Congregational), West High St., Somersworth, NH 03878.
