I was privileged to work in the APA under Bob's leadership. The group of pilots of that era worked diligently to better the the working environment of the pilot, improve the safety for eryone in the airplane and keep the company profitable. Though it seemed that management thought of us as adversaries, Bob kept the course and knew that a profitable airline was also the goal of the APA. As good friends, Bob and I go back to the very early days of our careers at American Airlines when we were the first "new hires" to be elected to The Allied Pilots Association Negotiating Committee. We worked together on the same side of the table for many years until we each followed separate yet parallel paths, Bob rising through management of the Allied Pilots Association and I through the management of American Airlines Flight Department.
