MARKEN, ROBERT M. "BOB"
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 67, passed away peacefully Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Veterans Hospital, Ann Arbor following a brief illness. He was born January 8, 1947 in Wayne, MI to Robert C. and Elizabeth (McNutt) Marken. Bob served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman (3rd Marine Division) in Vietnam. Upon the end of his military service, he returned to Michigan and studied nursing at Henry Ford College. He worked as a registered nurse in mental health at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, retiring in 2009 after 27 years of dedicated service. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and an active lifestyle, was an avid gardener and loved to cook. Bob had a generous spirit and a thoughtful nature, and lived a life committed to the service of others. His kindness, selflessness, and numerous talents will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Upon his request his remains have been donated to medical science to help further education and research. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Robbie and is survived by four sisters, Helen Marken of Big Rapids, MI, Catherine (Richard) Dimery of Pembroke, NC, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Shanks of Chelsea, MI and M. Colleen (Earl) Sykes of Williamston, MI and nieces and nephews, Monica, Michael, Meghann, James, Colleen, Caroline and Bridget. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of the VA MICU for their warmth and commitment in making Bob's final days as comfortable as possible. The memorial service will be 11 am Friday, August 29, 2014 at Stark Funeral Service where the family will greet friends from 10 am until time of service. Bob skated at Veterans Ice Arena almost every day during the winter. I will miss solving the worlds problems as we went around the rink.. My condolences to the family.

I have personally known you since 1966 and you will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know you. You have always been a warm and caring person. I will never forget all the great times we had in the service. We had some great laughs. It was my pleasure knowing you. Rest in peace my friend
