Robert B. Mata, born March 21, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas,
died December 26, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. 
Robert attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and Central Catholic HS.  

At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy, fulfilling his duty while being stationed in Europe and the Asian Pacific before becoming a civil servant at Kelly AFB.  Robert retired from Kelly after 40 years of service as an Instrumental Engineer, ultimately being promoted to Foreman. 

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro and Aida Mata and sister, Virginia (Humberto).  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carmen Franco Mata; children: Rose, Robert Jr, Roy (Elsa), Rachel (Jesse) and Richard; grandchildren: Richard Cox (Robyn), Krystle Mata Poynor (Casey), Corey Morales (Cynthia), Zachary Mata, Nicholas Mata and Jarred Morales; great grandchildren: Ryen and Allie Poynor; brother, Raymond (Ernestina); numerous nieces and nephews. 

Robert will be missed and remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.   


FUNERAL SERVICES

Visitation will begin Wednesday, Jan. 10th
at 5:00pm in The Angelus Chapel with a Rosary at 7:00pm. 

Funeral Mass will be offered
Thursday, January 11th at 11:30am at
St. John Berchmans Catholic Church. 

Interment will follow at
Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
with military honors.
