Not sure what to say?

Sadly, I´m just seeing this now. From time to time I watch the feature C-Span did on Bob showing his massive book collection; I´m also a fellow collector. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Loved the time we got to spend with the family - fond memories of good times! Love to you Mary and Holly!

Dear Mary and Bob's many friends. Regrets for just learning of Bob's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. So many wonderful memories of Bob...the great dinners during the 1980's on Gordon Street, the trip to the Yucatan and Oaxaca, the constant search for antiques, the wise counsel that he always shared with me, his fond regard for and care of Bill Decker during Bill's last days plus their ceaseless discussions about India and the US Civil War, and Bob's larger than life stories and...

Please accept our sincerest condolences. He was loved and will certainly be missed.

The Crystal Beer Parlor Family

Mary and family--from all of us, heartfelt condolences on Bob's passing. He was our colleague, mentor, Dutch Uncle and our friend. We miss him so very much.

This man stood up for me when I was nearly unfairly fired, even if it meant choosing a chef over a server. This man invited me to his family Christmas dinner when he found out that I had spent it alone for the past three years. This man found out that I was hiding blue hair under my wig and joked, "It must be cold outside, your hair turned blue."
This was a man who told me that I could borrow from his personal library anytime I wanted, because I loved reading.

I regret that I...

Deepest condolences to Mary and family. Back in July 1979 Bob McAlister offered me a job with the City of Savannah. And there I remained until I retired in 2008.

Mary, I may still have a picture of Bob holding forth in my dining room at the XXX birthday of my dear friend Barbara. I believe that he was in his usual overalls and plain as a mud fence. Who would have guessed that he was the late Susan Weiner's right hand man?????

Don't know how to get in touch with you but know that I remember him with great fondness and respect. He will go down in Savannah history as a character and genuine historical figure.

I share your sorrow.

I remember Bob - He gave me my first permanent job with the city. I have been with the city for 35+ years. Rest in Peace, Mr. McAlister
