Robert effervesced with a can-do attitude, friendliness, wit, and honesty.

I was sorry to hear about his departure, which seems much too soon. My most sincere condolences to his relatives and loved ones.

May God's peace be with you all.

Bobby... I met you in 2000. We had tons of fun times together! You picked Nikki (my chocolate lab) and I up when I lived in Montrose to go get dirty in the mud at the dog park. You did'nt care about your Lexus getting dirty. You brought Nikki & I to play fetch. All 3 of us were muddy in the end. My dog was muddy (so were we) and you didn't care. I will miss you.

Bobby, As I sat in the pew during the funeral so many memories came to mind. One of them stood out: the time we all dared you to sleep in the old Ross mansion in League City. We had surveyed it the week before; you had bragged how you could stay there all night. We took bets, and the night came. We all escorted you to the mansion. All you had was a flash light and a sleeping bag. We all left and went somewhere locally; by eleven o'clock you joined us....guess you were a little bit scared of the dark after all....;)

Bobby, I'll always remember you calling or answering the phone saying, "What are ya doin?" You always had my back and will be remembered for being a great friend to me and Max, my puppy. When you called just the other day you asked to speak to Mr.Max. I guess cooking Thanksgiving dinner together this year will be cancelled but I'll toast to you,Bobby Douglas Mcbrayer, happy trails until we meet again. Your friend

Robert's energy, caring and enthusiasm will continue to shine in those of us who had the fortune to meet him. I am grateful that he took time out of his busy schedule when he traveled to Alaska to visit with our small contracting firm and made us feel that we were part of his team. My condolences to his family and to his family of friends.

Robert was a great friend, he always rounded up the Bus in the morning to go get breakfast, he was the first to ask if you were ready, and last on to make the trip. He was the kind of friend that would go to a Florida State –VS- Alabama football game and have our Alabama hats and shirts on in a Florida Bar, where there were 300 Florida fans and only 5 Alabama fans, and he would still walk out of the bar with 5 new friends, even though they were voting for Florida. We will miss you brother.

Robert brought smiles and laughter into every workday, starting with the morning coffee run and only dwindling well after he took off for other adventures and quietude returned to the offices. I will miss the warmth and caring that he brought into our lives. My sincerest condolences to his family and to all who loved him.

Robert helped me many times in his short stay here at SFWMD in South Florida. He was so friendly and had a great heart. One day he told me about a trip he took to Dubrovnik, Crotia. I said, "Where in the world is that?" and he kindly sent me a photo of one the most beautiful places on earth! I used that photo as my desktop for well over a year and got more compliments than I can remember!! I'm sure he's in a place even more beautiful than Dubrovnik. My sympathies to the family.

Bobby was a great uncle and a great man. He loved to talk (it must have been from all the coffee he drank!) and he loved to make people smile. I know he is up in heaven now talking God's ear off and making all the angels laugh.

Uncle Bobby was the kind of man who put others first and who was always kind hearted. I'll never forget the time he flew up to Massachusetts to surprise my mom, his sister, for her birthday. He was only requested to send a birthday video, but he did something even greater. It meant so much to all of my family, including myself. The time I spent with him then and this past August will always bring back cherished and fond memories.

I love you Uncle Bobby.

Time passes by and we haven't crossed paths in a long time, but true friends are never forgotten. Such a passionate and good hearted friend. It seems that we always had some entertaining surveying stories to talk about and thanks for them.
You will truly be missed. Rest in Peace Bobby.

October 31, 2012

All of us at Eagle Mapping only knew Robert though phone converstaions regarding the Colville Delta project. We could tell that Robert was a very pleasant, positive person and very focused on the task at hand. Robert always took the time to speak to us on a personal level and made us feel that we were part of the Repsol team. Robert is going to be missed by us and we hope the person that takes his place has similar characteristics. Our thoughts and pryers go out to Robert's family and friends and those who knew him well.

Robert was one of the most caring individuals that I had ever met. I was fortunate to have worked with Robert for severals years and as a result had the opportunity to get to know him as a friend. Robert had a passion for military history, politics and SEC football and I enjoyed the many discussions we had over those and other subjects. My life is richer for having known Robert.

Having been out of contact with Robert over the past few months I am thankful that he called me recently and we were able to spend time catching up with each other. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to play another round of pool. That will have to wait till we see each other again.

Rest in Peace

I came to know Bobby when the McBrayer/Rose moved to 3rd Street in the early 1970's. We all played together; dodgeball, baseball, touch football, and whatever mischief we could get ourselves into(July 4th fireworks, Halloween pranks), and out of, together. And we all endured school, our parents, siblings, neighbors and the occasional cop, together. If you listened closely you would hear him make some funny, sarcastic comment under his breath. All my memories of Bobby are good ones. He was kind and thoughtful, tenderhearted. He stopped to see my mother on 3rd Street several years ago and inquired about her and our family. That was Bobby on earth. I imagine he is not that much different in heaven, because he doesn't need to change from the beautiful person he was with us to the beautiful soul he is now.

I hired him to support GIS at the District, and he accepted the position to learn more about the server side of things. However, I think I learned more about being a human being from him than he learned about systems administration from me. A friend in need was always a top priority for him. He will be sorely missed...

As a long term friend it is with sadness and joy remembering a great friend. We first met when I was with IBM and he with League City. I have known Bobby for a little more than 2 years, but the incredible feeling of loss for knowing someone only that short period of time is hard for me to put into words. Bobby was my brother-in-law, but he was much more. He was a good friend, a fierce political opponent (I think I will miss those spirited debates the most), and a man with a heart as big as his voice. My wife lost a brother, my kids lost and uncle and I lost a friend, but we will all see him again someday, and until that day we will live with the incredibly fond memories he left us with.

From the moment he was born to his last days on this world he was a blesssing and blessed all those in his presence just by knowing him and those special few that were in his life and shared in his life no matter how small were lucky to have known him. He was vocal and honest and believed what he believed - if only we could all learn from that be that way. He was a very loving caring brother and uncle to his nieces and he will be missed every day but NEVER forgotten. I love you and miss you my sweet brother.

Bobby has drifted in and out of my life since 1997. He was never the type of person to stay in one place too long, but when he did stay, he made friends easily and shared himself with those around him.

I had the pleasure of having him as a Mentor when I began in the GIS Profession. His mentorship grew into a Friendship that has lasted a decade and a half.

During that time, I had been blessed by his insight and gifted with the knowledge he shared freely. Each dose given with a touch of humor and honesty.

It was only last year when I encountered Bobby again, at the beginning of one of his many returns to Houston.

We had a chance to chat, relive some memories and enjoy a few minutes of each others company. In hindsight, I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to sit down with him any longer than the few minutes we both managed to steal from our schedules that day.

Bobby was a bright light in our GIS Community and his passing will diminish our Profession.
I will surely miss you. God Speed Bobby.

Bob was a friend from the first time I met him in 1994. Bob and I would keep in touch from that time up to just a few weeks ago. Bob was known to move from place to place. When talking with Bob, the question was, where are you now? We kept in touch as he moved from to Huntsville Alabama, back to Houston, to Raliegh NC, to Palm Beach and back to Houston, plus other spots in between.... It was the same question among our group of close knit GISer's that knew him, where is Bob? It was that we cared about Bob, as he was a good friend. We know he is in a good place now, and will miss him. Some day we will cross paths again.....
