Not sure what to say?

I know Bob from many summer writing conferences at Port Townsend and winter residencies. Whenever he wore his t-shirt that said "Plays Well With Others," I smiled because it perfectly describes him.

I remember huge gatherings with tons of food at Betty and Bobs!
He had a great laugh.

My condolences to the McFarlane family. I served with Bob for many years in his later life, as trustees on the board for Community Services, Inc. Bob was warm and witty and never at a loss for a good pun. I am glad to read that he lived such a fulfilling life in service to others.

I met Dr. McFarlane at Bess Kaiser. Though I did a lot of ENT surgery I did get to work with Dr. McFarlane and enjoyed it always. He usually would tease me about being from Wisconsin and a farm girl even though I didn't grow up on a farm. He was a very good teacher. Also gave good hugs.

I read with sadness the passing of Bob McFarlane. Our friendship goes back more than 60 years. I knew Bob, his parents and his siblings. He amazed me with his dedicated commitment to become a surgeon. It takes a long time to become a thoracic surgeon but he never wavered. I also knew Betty, his first wife. Bob and Betty and their extended family positively impacted my life in many significant ways. May God bless Victoria and may Bob rest in peace with our heavenly Father. James Fenwick Bend, OR

He was one of my favorite surgeons at Bess Kaiser. Often joining staff for happy hour, where Betty would also join in the fun. I am blessed to have known him and grateful to hear that he had a good and fulfilled life. Rest in Peace.

My condolences to Bob's family and friends. He and I attended Sandra McPherson's writing seminars. His work is published in the "12 Oregon Poets' series. May the memory of his kind actions and words endure.

Remembering all of Bob’s amazing support as he and Betty put up with our singing practice. Also, the puns and wonderful laughs.

I remember Bob as a fun and very witty guy.
