Robert Edward McMillan JAMES ISLAND - Robert Edward McMillan, 77 , of James Island, the husband of Veda Lockey McMillan, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 31, 2009. He was born in Charleston, the son of Thomas Ambrose McMillan, Sr. And Elma Fischer McMillan, on Sunday, November 1, 1931. After attending Chicora High School, Mr. McMillan enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and served our country honorably during the Korean War. Upon his return to Charleston he went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1986 after 37 years as a NDT Metals Inspector Foreman. Mr. McMillan loved to be outdoors, especially when he was on the water and was a member of the Secessionville Civic Club. He believed strongly in building character, which is show wonderfully through his sons. Mr. McMillan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Veda L. McMillan; two sons, Robert E. McMillan, Jr and Vickie, Dwayne E. McMillan and Angela; six grandchildren, Annmarie L. McMillan, Chad E. McMillan, Robert E. McMillan III, Ashley N. McMillan, Olivia C. McMillan, Whitney B. McGuire and Will; three siblings, Adeline Mazyck and Ray, Betty Varner, Sherod McMillan and Linda; two sisters-in-law, Louise McMillan, Sarah McMillan and several nieces and nephews. The relatives and friends of Robert E. McMillan are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Hwy. The entombment will be held in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, this evening, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either Epworth United Methodist Church, 1540 Camp Rd. Charleston, SC 29412 or to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Rd., Suite 504 North Charleston, SC 29406. mac was the best of the best neighbors we have ever had. he was always there to answer my questions about anything.he inspired me to keep going.i would see mac keep working ,plowing, working on the dock. will miss hearing the tractor and seeing the garden grow. we will miss you mack.

We will all miss Uncle Robert. We will keep You, Robbie and Dwayne in our prayers. It sure will be a huge loss not having my Uncle robert in our lives. Oh sooooo many memories that the two of you gave us. The oyster roast, holiday gatherings (and lets not forget the smoked turkey's), the trips to Morris Island on the (Pop a Top).You and Uncle Robert fed me my first oyster when Mom and Dad dropped while you watched us.It sure would be my pleasure for you to feed my Daughter...
