Not sure what to say?

Bob and I were married for so long I was sure it would never end util it did. It has been a long time but the entries in this web sight have awakened so many memories. He had so much that I never saw, people that he touched that I never new about. How great it is to hear all the things that others remember about him. I remember camping, boating and parties with the other people from Bates. It was wonderful to see some of those people from my past at the service we had. This has been...

I was a young student of Bob's class back in 1988. He really taught me the ropes of the industry, which led me to my first job at ABC. Now, many years later, I work in Hollywood...along with my twin brother Dan, who was also Bob's student. We laugh and sometimes talk about our humble beginnings back at Bates where Bob gave us complete control over the PBS station. I believe in those years, the station's Nielson ratings SOARED!! Ha, ha, ha!

Bob, you touched so many lives, in so...

I along with my twin brother, Dave was a student at L.H. Bates Television from 1988 - 1990. Although Bob could be intimidating, he was laid back and a fun and great instructor! He'd let us go wild in Master Control (Much like the early days of Saturday Night LIVE). We hooked up the sound booth and did LIVE voice overs on the promos -ha,ha!

When he saw the twins coming he would practically roll his eyes, "Here comes double trouble".

"Hi Bob!"
"Not YET", he'd say.

In life we meet certain people who will make an impression on us. They will make an great enough impression that the lesson learned will be passed on to others and several of Bob's impressions did just that.

When I heard of Bob's passing, I was taken back to the time when I was going to Tech class from Master Control. He was at one end of the hall and I the other. In a loud voice(that carried well through the long hallway) he asked "what I was doing roaming the halls?" I...

Bob was a great encouragement to me while I was a student at Bates in more ways than one.

He had a great sense of humor, and his advice was genuine. He was, also, much like a father figure. One time when I was close to graduation he had a talk with me. Bob said something like, “It’s tough for woman in this field, and you need to be ready. The boys will try to bring you down, but you just keep to your training, know you can do the job just as well as them- and then do it –and...

Dear Teri and Keith,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I wish you both and your families strength during this difficult time.

I will never forget the day I entered that L.H. Bates classroom and hearing Bob Mears "Introduction to Television" lecture.

Little did I know that this lecture would be the start of my career in electronic media that has lasted almost 25 years. Many of my fellow classmates who sat in that same room, I still work with and am friends with.

This career continues to fulfilled me creatively. Taken me around the world. Allowed me to provide for my family.

I...

If not for Bob, many of us in the television field would have never gotten a real TV job. He knew when we were ready to leave the nest and had the connections to get us started in our TV career. Though we were scared to leave the comforts of school, his encouragement made the transition a lot easier. Thank you Bob. You will be missed.

This is such a sad loss. Bob was one of my instructors at Bates, and lead me in the right direction in TV. He had a good heart and a great sense of humor..

He will be sadly missed
