Not sure what to say?

I just googled Rob and found his obituary. Oh, what wonderfully dear friends and neighbors you were to us during our years in Mt. Prospect! We were all so young with our growing families. Rob had such a wonderful sense of humor, and Connie, you were an amazing friend and confident. Tanya had such a crush on Stevie, and Allison and John were good buddies. I certainly remember Kevin as a baby, and was delighted when you brought home your 4th baby boy, Brian. After learning of Rob's death...

My, we're coming up to nine years since his passing. Yesterday I googled his name and found this obituary and have now discovered it is still taking condolences. I'm a first cousin of Connie. I knew Bob since their wedding. Two memories. When my wife and I and our children visited their home in Macomb in the 1980s, I told a story about our side of the family and Rob just doubled over in laughter. It may have been the same visit, and I forget what prompted this statement -- there was a patch...

Connie, Brian Marton told me of Bob's passing last week. I was stunned. As you may remember, we were painting partners part time in the apartments of Rogers Park, Illinois. We graduated together at St. Mary's College and were very close friends at at the time. When you moved from the Chicago area we lost touch. What a mistake. I really had fond feelings for him then and should have kept up. Boobie and I laughed and laughed all the time. He was a joy to be around. I will keep him and...

Still miss my Dad terribly. A day hasn't gone by without a thought of him. I've been wanting to make an entry here for over a year, but have failed to find the right words to best express how much he meant to me. It's by no coincidence, I'm sure, that we haven't seen John's, Sta's or Zion's name in here either. Words simply do not convey the magnitude of loss or the impact he had on our lives.

So instead of trying to find the right words, let me share a story. I think I was in...

Our dear friend, Neil "Nelly" Armstrong wrote this poem about Bob and we want to share it with everyone who visits this site.

BOB

A simple name but not a simple man.
A man who said, "oh, yes you can."
Always a twinkle in his eye,
Though he's gone, it's hard to cry.

An educator his whole life,
A loving husband to Connie, his wife.
Brian, John, Kevin and Steve,
Will carry on what Bob did believe.

Bob and I were classmates and dorm- mates at St Mary's in Winona, Mn..
I can still recall his laugh and humor some 40 years after last seeing him.....He introduced me to
my future wife with the results of four beautiful children...Thanks
Bob...will never forget you...

Bob and I managed to stay in touch over the years via e-mail. We both had the same political beliefs about our current president and often would relay humerous barbs and jokes back and forth regarding him. I once helped him set up an e-mail account so he could view his work e-mail from home and his home e-mail from work. He thought at the time that this technology stuff was simply "amazing." He was so angry with me when I did not stop to see him and Connie when I visited Gettysburg last fall...

As the Director of Special Education for the Macomb School District when Bob came to Macomb as Junior High Principal, I found him to be refreshingly open to new ideas for educating the handicapped.

As Treasurer of the Macomb Lions Club, I worked closely with Bob during his presidency on many projects and issues of club operations. He was very committed to the mission of Lionism, especially regarding diabetes awareness. Bob asked me each time we talked about my golf playing that...

Before retiring in 1997, the last four years of my career as a middle school counselor were spent with Bob as my administrator. Those four years were some of the best of my career. We had great times together and great stuggles together. I always knew exactly where I stood with Bob....there were no hidden agendas for him. If he wanted something to happen he made that very clear. I always admired the way he could handle children with respect and yet with a firmness and directness that left no...
