MENGEL, Robert G. - Of Grand Blanc, age 78, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. Garry Yeager officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Unity Christian Church or a charity of one's choice. Visitation 2-5 and 6-9PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Mengel was born in Flint, Michigan on December 15, 1924 and was a resident of Grand Blanc and the Flint area all of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers during World War II. He married Bonnie Jean Hewitt on June 1, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was affiliated with MacKenzie Knuth and Klein Architects in Flint for 42 years, retiring in 1992 as President. Mr. Mengel was past president of the Flint Golf Club and was a member of West Flint Kiwanis. He was a very versatile man, enjoying aviation, golf and reading. Surviving are wife, Bonnie; 2 daughters, Claudia and husband Dennis Karas of Holly, Linda and husband James Ketner of Fenton; 2 grandsons, Scott Masterson and fiancee, Jennifer Judd, both of Grand Blanc, Ryan Masterson and wife Amy of Burlington, Vermont; sister, Marjorie and husband Walter Madison of Flint. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert, on March 2, 2002.
