I was a young men's dept Mgr at Laurel Plaza when I first met "Mr. Michelman". I did not know his name, I just knew he was from "the buying office upstairs ". He heard me telling a customer what looks were really selling and were trendy. He waited and came up to me and asked me to walk the floor w him with what was selling and why. I worked with Bob at The May Company...having come from London to join the company as Menswear Fashion Director. Bob was so welcoming and supportive during my whole career, helping me always in the most positive and constructive way.. He was always interested in my goals and objectives, and helped in so many meaningful ways to see me realise those achievements.

I was Bob's assistant when he was the May Company Shirt buyer, then, replaced him as buyer when we was made Divisional Merchandise Manager. He was not only a great boss, an unbelievable retailer, but a wonderful friend and teacher. The team of Bob and Ira Ginsberg were the best team anyone could ever work for. We also played golf together, while a team, and had terrific times together. RIP Bob, you are dearly missed and forever appreciated and loved. Steve Clarke
