Robert O. Midbrod, 80, Silver Bay died Aug. 23, 2008 at home with his family. He was born in Two Harbors, Minn., to Thorvald and Petra Midbrod on June 16, 1928. Robert married Dorothy Hereau in Superior, Wis., on Sept.8, 1956. Together they raised six children. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a commercial fisherman on Lake Superior for 60 years and also worked at Reserve Mining Company for 27 years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed his family and hanging out with them, especially at camp. He will be remembered for his smile and laughter. He was a hard working man with a positive ""can do'' attitude. His motto was work hard, whistling while he worked, make sure and have fun along the way. He was a great story teller- sharing many tales from the years past and of his Lake Superior adventures. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Thorvald and Petra Midbrod and brother, Kenneth Midbrod. Robert will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothy of 52 years; his children, Ron (Sharon) Midbrod of Florence, S.C., Cher (Gary) Fletcher of Chattanooga, Tenn., Gary (Diannia) Midbrod of Stillwater, Minn., Fred (Verna) Midbrod of Centerville, Minn., Sandy (Buck) Betzler of Silver Bay, Minn., and Beth Kelly of Ramsey, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; brother, William Midbrod; sisters-in-law, Emma Rowell and Alice Johnson; and brother-in-law, Wallace Hereau. MEMORIAL SERVICE:1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay, Minn. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home.

We are sorry to hear about the loss of such a special man. We were up the North Shore and walking the beach when we met Mr. Midbrod digging the tracks from the boathouse. We helped him dig and he said he had sold his boat and someone was coming to pick it up. We worked and talked with him for about an hour. I am so sorry for your loss. Brother David & I would have come if we'd had more notice.
I remember Bob as a cheerful, smiling, warm man that always noticed your presence & took time to chat with us.
