Robert Emmett Minns, Jr. of Heywood Commons Gardner, formerly of East Templeton, died peacefully Wednesday January 6 2016 in Heywood Hospital after a short illness. Robert was born in East Templeton, January 12, 1928 to the late Robert E. Minns Sr., and Elvira (Hermonson) Minns. His beloved wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Alie) Minns died in 2004. Robert attended Templeton Schools through grade 11, when he left to proudly serve his country with the United States Navy at the end of WWII. He served in Okinawa and China. Robert was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. After the military, Robert volunteered for the East Templeton Fire Department. He worked at several local factories before settling as the Superintendent of L&Z Kamman. Later he worked for L.S. Starrett retiring in 1993. He was a long time member of the Ovila Case Post 905 VFW of Gardner. Robert was an avid ice fisherman and together with his wife, fished many of the lakes of New England. Robert is survived by his sister; Eleanor L. Isbill of Greenwood Village, CO, and his brother Richard V. Minns and his wife Gail of Raleigh, NC, a brother in-law James Alie and his wife Ruth of Otter River, and eight nieces and nephews. A special salute to the family of James and Beverly Minns for their love and support, especially their daughter Brenda for her tremendous dedication to Bob's welfare. Also to Betty Lynn Roberts of Baltimore, MD, who considered Bob her second father. You are invited to attend a visiting hour in the Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, on Friday, Jan. 15 from 11AM to 12PM. His funeral service will begin at 12PM.
