Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Wichita Falls Obituary

Robert “Bob” Morris, one week shy of 79 years old, loyal friend, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Uncle and forever the businessman passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 25, 2016. Bob was born April 2, 1937, in Harlingen, Texas. He was a long time resident and business owner in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Bob is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Lavern and David Slack of Mont. Belvieu, TX; sister-in-law Janice Reed of Georgetown, Tx., brother-in-law and wife, Jimmy and Jenny Norris of Round Rock, Tx. ; sister-in-law, Martha Norris of Livingston, Tx.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dawn Morris of Helena, MT; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Steve Quate of Keller, TX ; son, Paul Morris of Wichita Falls, TX. His grandchildren are: Danielle Campos and husband Marco of Mandeville, LA, Gwen Bailey and husband Doug of La Vernia, TX, Nathan Morris and wife Jenny of Wichita Falls, TX. Heather Quate of Keller, Tx.  and Gabby, Savannah, David, Jacob and Sarah Morris of Helena, MT. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jean Lou Norris in 1955. His Uncle Paul was his mentor and helped him with his plans to pursue the Moving and Trucking business in Harlingen, McAllen and Brownsville, Tx area shortly after High School.  Although he did not have any brothers, the Reeds boys were always considered his brothers.

The young and vivacious couple moved from Harlingen, Texas to Wichita Falls to continue the pursuit of a career in the moving and storage business in the early 1960s. Bob was a loyal Atlas Van Lines Agency owner for over 30 years. In 1964, when the historical tornado blew through Wichita Falls and damaged large portions of Shepherd Air Force Base, he rallied together and donated equipment, time, employees and his heart to help salvage the lives of those affected.

His moving and storage business growth continued into the 90s, during which time he was the first delivery service for Federal Express in Wichita Falls, until an office could be established. He changed his career direction in the mid-nineties and started a new journey, selling cars for Herb Easley. He was soon recognized as salesman of the year, and developed many lifelong relationships with fellow employees and clients. Bob’s enthusiasm was contagious.

Ever the true “salesman”, he made the decision to open another business on his own- this time a used car business, and continued to work until the last day he was with us.

Bob was a celebrated outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting in Texas his entire life as well as many adventures to Colorado. He passed this love on to each of his children.

Anyone that met Bob left with a smile on their face, and a lighter heart. He was a wonderful storyteller, with a great sense of humor as well as a jokester (always pointing out the fact that he should have been born on April 1st). We can rejoice that Bob is reunited with his sweetheart, Jean Lou Morris, and their first-born son, Robert C. “Bobby” Morris, Jr. as well as with his parents.

In honor of his passing, his Nephews will be conducting the funeral services. Jimmy Slack of Liberty Hill, Tx, Pastor Terri Slack of Georgetown, Tx and Pastor Patrick Slack of Manor, Tx.  Pastor Dawn Slack will provide the music and singing in honor of her Uncle Bob.

Viewing will be held Thursday, March 31 5-7:00 PM at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Tx.

The funeral will be held Friday, April 1st, 11:00 AM at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home.

Laura and Family, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Bob gave me my first real job while in high school in the late 70's and I have many fond memories of that time. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Bob and Jean were my friends and business associates from the early 1960s until their passing.
My heart goes out to David, Laura, and Paul. I miss my friends. Bet old Bobs first words when he got to Heaven were " Yes Mam", before Jean said a word.
