Robert M. "Bob" Nerem

Bob was my M S and PhD advisor and i was his first PhD graduate at an Ohio State (1969). Bob´s influence on my 40 year career in academia at Texas A&M was can not be expressed in words but it was tremendous. He had a great influence on my life. He is truly missed. I met Bob at a bioengineering conference he organized in Hilton Head several years ago. The conference was fantastic and Bob was a delightful host. He was always very energetic, engaging and enthusiastically open to new ideas. He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

Bob was a kind, wonderful man who listened more than he spoke. It was to me a privilege to be his friend.

Bob was one of a kind - he knew everybody and everything in the world of bioengineering. When I arrived at GT my lab space was not ready, and I was stuck: what would I do? Before I knew it, Bob was calling me: "Hey Ross, I heard there was a hangup with your lab space. I have some spare space you can use in the meantime". He really was that kind of person, someone who comes along only once in a while. We miss you Bob.

I remeber during my freshamn year at Georgia Tech I was really stressed and didn't feel like I belonged at GT but he said "You deserve to be here" and that really helped me to shape a better attitude towards my college struggles.

Bob Nerem took me off the streets when I lost my job, mentored me to MS and PhD degrees, and into a most satisfying academic career.

Once, his secretary was having a difficult time personally. Bob generously paid her salary while she took a month off to solve her problems.

Dr. Nerem always saw the best in everyone, and brought it out.

Bob Nerem is proof-positive that nice guys finish first.
