            Robert M. Payne, 93, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022.


            He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on February 23, 1929, to the late Henry and Winifred Payne.  Robert was a Korean War U.S. Navy veteran.  He was employed by South Central Bell until his retirement in 1984.  During those years, Robert also enjoyed volunteering as leader to Boy Scout Troop 99.  After retirement, he kept himself busy installing phones for friends and local businesses.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hiking, hunting, and the outdoors.  Robert was a 70-year-member of Jerusalem Masonic Lodge No. 9.  He was a lifelong devoted member of First Christian Church where he made many lasting friendships.


            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Payne; his daughter, Sandra Nobles; his son, Ray Payne; one sister; and three brothers.


            Survivors include three grandchildren, David Nobles and his wife, Shelley, of Cadiz, Kentucky, Taylor Payne of Lexington, Kentucky, and Lindsay Phillips and her husband, Chad, of Cadiz, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren, Sam, Allison, June, Shea, and Liam; his daughter-in-law, Libby Payne of Henderson, Kentucky; and nieces and nephews.


            Services will be at noon Friday, July 29, 2022, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.  Dr. Chuck Summers will officiate.  Private burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.


            Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.


            Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dear Libby, Taylor, Lindsay, David and your families, Please accept my condolences on Robert’s passing. He certainly fought the good fight. I enjoyed seeing him whenever and wherever I did, and appreciated he always spoke to me. I have been glad to share his recent journey through Libby’s stories and am grateful for her devoted care of him. May Robert rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.

To this day, I remember very vividly a Christmas where Aunt Cynthia, Uncle Jim, Aunt Joyce and Uncle Robert came to visit. We had nothing. I mean nothing. Our Dad was off doing what our Dad did. We never heard any judgment from any of them. They stayed and played with us and visited with our Mom. The four of them left and returned a little while later.
