Not sure what to say?

Dr. Pitts operated on our 26 week premie in 1993. Although he did not survive, the love and compassion with which Dr. Pitts treated us and our son has long been remembered. We were blessed to come into contact with him during that scary time.

In 1983, Dr. Pitts operated on my first child three times in three weeks. He saved her life. He also comforted a young minister and his distraught wife with his caring bedside manner. I grieve with you the passing of a caring and gifted man.

I worked with Dr. Pitts in his office and as O.R. Secretary at Childrens - he was a brilliant man. More important, he was humble and treated all of us with respect. I still work with surgeons in PA and speak of Dr. Pitts often. My condolences.

This wonderful, compassionate and adventurous man set a role model for young physicians and international do-gooders. I was blessed to have him as both mentor and as dear friend.

As a friend of the Pitts family for 50 years I had the pleasure of knowing Marshall. He was a kind and friendly person and good company whenever our paths crossed, first in Boston, then Alabama and more recently in New York. My husband and I extend our sincerest condolences to all the family.

Marshall was an outstanding pediatric surgeon, one of the very first in Alabama, decent and compassionate, and a totally unselfish physician. He was one of my very best friends, one of my personal heroes, to whom I referred patients confident that they would receive pre-eminent care. I sent him his first patient when he established his practice in Birmingham. I'll miss you, buddy.

Our sincere sympathy to each of you, Marshall's family. We had the pleasure of working with Marshall as a neonatologist and as a neonatal nurse for 15 and 17 years respectively. He was a marvelous surgeon, a compassionate physician and a great friend. Truly, Birmingham and Alabama have lost a giant - a person totally dedicated to his profession.

Dr. Pitts was a wonderful surgeon. He operated on my 6 month old son 25 years ago at Children's hospital in Birmingham. My sympathies to his family.

I was very sad to hear of Dr. Pitts death. He was truly unique. My Mom (Billie) worked for Dr. Pitt's for many years and she thought alot of him as a doctor and as a true friend. Peter, I miss seeing you and I pray that the Lord will comfort you during this difficult time. My deepest sympathy to all the family.
