Raleigh, North Carolina - Mr. Poole, 90, originally from Clayton, NC, died on Tuesday morning.
He was the husband of Martha Babb Poole of Raleigh. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 29 at 2 pm in the sanctuary of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. The first time I ever had a golf club in my hands was when Rev. Poole's clubs were secretly borrowed (thanks to David Poole). We gathered at the church to practice driving. My ball went straight into Rev. Poole's office window. It landed in the middle of his desk as Rev. Poole surprisingly observed. That was the last time I ever used a golf club. He was a good sport. I guess my Dad, Punch Parker had to install a new window pane.
Rev. Poole led an exemplary life.

I am so sad to read of Mr. Poole's death. I met him and his family in the summer 1973 when I served at the Summer Youth Minister (though Youth Corps of the BSCNC) at Corinth Baptist Church in Elizabeth City. He was nurturing and a truly caring individual.
I became engaged that summer to my husband and he teased me so much. I enjoyed seeing him at conventions, church meetings, etc. though the years and he always remembered to tease me for the engagement or anything else he knew would embarrass me. Much love and prayers for the family in your loss.
