Luyben Dilday - Long Beach - Long Beach Obituary

Robert Damian Pugh
September 15, 1920 – July 16, 2011
Robert (Bob) Pugh, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed peacefully on July 16. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Ellsworth and Venetia Margaret Clutter Pugh, siblings Donald, Verna Lee, James and wife, Lola Christine Whitton Pugh, the love of his life. Born in Pueblo, CO, Bob moved to Long Beach in 1937, attended Long Beach Polytechnic High, LB City College and received U.S. Coast Guard Academy officer training before serving in Honolulu from 1942 to 1946. Forty years at Proctor & Gamble brought him much pride and joy. Always active, he enjoyed family vacations, gardening, fishing, sports, music and learning about others. He happily volunteered with the Boy Scouts, Little League and the P&G Alumni Association. His endless humor, generosity, compassion and love of life were ever-present. While these activities and values were important, family and friends were central: Chris, his wife of 69 years and best friend; loving children Gary (Martha), Janis Jacobs (Rick) and Scott (Irene); adored grandchildren, Mary Ellen & Robert Pugh, Zachary & Joshua Jacobs, Sydney & Scotty Pugh; sister-in-law, Carol Whitton Woods, nephew, Don Woods (Maya), numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and his multitude of fabulous friends. He will be deeply missed. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 30, at the Los Altos United Methodist Church, 5950 East Willow Street, Long Beach, CA 90815. Reception following. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association in his memory. The family extends sincere appreciation to all who loved Bob!

Not sure what to say?

Your dad was loved by all. He left a big footprint.

Bob was a good friend to all of us as well as our parents Joe and Floris Tyner. He and Chris will be missed. Our best wishes to the family from Karen & Bill Owens and Jerry and Judy Tyner

May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your loved one comfort you and your family, today and always.

I am very saddened by the news that Bob has passed, and very sad as well to have learned that Chris passed away last year; my heart goes out to the whole family. Bob and Chris were the kindest, happiest people I knew growing up. Although I didn't completely understand it at the time, I did know that I really enjoyed being around them and their family. Now I realize that the Joy and Goodness they shared with everyone was very unique. When I think of Bob and Chris the first thing that comes to...

Janis,
My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. I always thought of the Pughs as the "Leave it to Beaver" family. He was such a handsome, wonderful and kind man. I'm sure he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. You know I'm here if you need anything.

Love and friendship,
Kathy

Bob Pugh was a class act. He and Lola were always one of my favorite people when I was growing up in Long Beach. I always thought they were so fun and easy to be around. Always laughing and engaging. My prayers and thoughts are with the Pugh family. I will miss Mr. Pugh a lot

We want to pay our respects to a good and dear friend and neighbor . Bob was always so warm and kind to us. Scott and our son Darrin were close when they were younger. Our love and prayers to Chris and the family. Richard and Bea McIntyre.

Scott, I remember your dad as a fixture at the Little League games when you were on the Indians and I was on the Angels. He was always quick with a hello and an encouraging word. God bless you and your entire family at this time of great loss.
