George L Doherty Funeral Service, Inc - Somerville Obituary

Robert H. Racicot, of Medford and formerly of Somerville, passed away on October 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Somerville, he was the devoted son of the late Rene and Filomena Racicot. After graduating from Somerville High School, Robert enlisted in the US Navy during the Vietnam era, serving his country with honor.

Robert was deeply devoted to the City of Somerville, where he worked for many years in the Somerville Housing Department, making a significant impact on many residents. In addition to his work for the city, he was also a self-employed contractor. In 1990, he was awarded the Key to the City for his heroic actions in saving lives during a fire on the corner of Cedar and Summer Streets. In 1998, he was voted Somerville's Finest Citizen.

An extremely talented athlete, Robert enjoyed playing baseball, golf, softball, and basketball, and was a long-time member of the Somerville YMCA. His unwavering generosity, loyalty, and friendship will be missed by many.

Robert is survived by his beloved siblings: Roland and Carol of Medford, John Racicot of Medford, Elizabeth Campo of Somerville, Marie Cotter of Stoneham, Barbara and John Mobilia of Somerville, Denise Kallis of North Reading, and Yvonne Racicot-Nicholson of Medford. He was predeceased by his brothers David and Joseph Racicot. He was the cherished uncle to many loving nieces and nephews and loyal friend to all.

A funeral procession will begin from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on Thursday morning at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Clement Church, Somerville/Medford at 10:00. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory can be made to the Parkinson's  Foundation at www.parkinson.org
