Robert Russell Obituary - Death Notice and Service Information

Robert Leeman “Bob” Russell passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was 93 years old.Bob was born in Blackwell, Texas in 1931, to Richard Cub and Sarah Margaret Russell. He was one of eight Russell children. He graduated from Portales High School and was drafted into service in the Army during the Korean War, where he served seventeen months before returning home as the war came to an end.After serving in the Army, Bob attended a trade school, training to be a newspaper typesetter. He worked at the Portales Tribune, the Roswell Daily Record, the Carlsbad Current Argus, and the Albuquerque Journal. He changed careers in 1976, moving his wife, Betty Sue, and children Rodney, Cheri, and Amy to Bluewater Village, New Mexico, to work for the uranium mines; then moved in 1982 to Carlsbad, NM, to work for the potash mines, as a hoist man. He retired in 1997.Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Sue (Green), whom he married in 1962 in Roswell, NM; his son Rodney (Tammy), his daughter Cheri (Mark) Courtney, and daughter Amy (Robert) Vasquez, five grandchildren, CW Russell, Logan Russell, Chelsea Courtney-Snell, Robert Courtney, and Cherry Vasquez, and one great grandchild, Everett Snell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Sadie Russell, four brothers, and two sisters.Bob worked hard and played hard, having a lifelong love of fishing (and set records for some of the catches he made in Elko, Nevada); and was still water skiing at age sixty-five. He enjoyed watching his grandson Logan playing soccer, and watching wildlife where he lived near Canyon Lake, seeing whitetail deer every day. He was a San Antonio Spurs fan. He was a dog lover, and had a few well-trained labrador retrievers, including his dog Holly. He will always be in our hearts.The family would like to express gratitude and thanks to the Heart to Heart Hospice Team for their compassionate care. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Ft.
