Not sure what to say?

I was very blessed to have Robert Sand and Lou Sand as my Odessa Parents and the rest of the family. They treated me like family every day I was with them and still remained family that way all these years later. One could not know any people that are more kind, giving, loving and generous. They cared about their family, their community and beyond. They would do anything anyone needed. Their hearts were always opened loved all.God bless them both and all of the family. Maureen

For Bob's Family, we added a "paver brick" memorializing Bob at the Society of American Foresters headquarters (Wild Acres - Bethesda MD) So that Bob and his long time friend Curt Baurer would have a permanent place at this historic facility. The Brick will be a part of the driveway and will show his name as an extrodinary NY Forester along with Curt's (amongst hundreds of others).

Still a "greenhorn", Bob was my second boss after graduating ESF. He convinced me to leave a job at I.P.Co, to work at Cotton-Hanlon, Inc., for longer hours and less pay. Three decades later, this has proved to be one of my best career decisions.
Bob shared his foresight, and experience in practical forestry, multiple uses for acreage, and a common sense approach to dealing with challenges. He assisted this young forester in starting up his first business, and...

Bob Sand was one of my favorite people.

I met him decades ago when I first came to the College. He was delighted to tease me about my being a "Lab Forester". He was equally delighted when some of my little lab trees started to grow into real ones. He always said exactly what he thought, but with a twinkle in his eye!

He was good friend and he will be missed.

We shared the last walk in the woods on a bright sunny day, lunch by a dirt road, and spoke of the things that make a forester's heart glad: children and their future, good tree culture, aspiring forestry students the prospects for the future of the profession, past good bosses, and the love and support of a wonderful wife. It was a good and godly day.

Bob, just a final thank you for your constant support and help in my forestry career. I remember the first we met, at a NY SAF meeting long enough ago that I don't want to give the date. You tried to sell me a forest plot and I probably should have bought it then and there. Every time we met thereafter, usually at SAF meetings, continued to offer the lot but I never bought it (too many children to send off to college) and it will now be a constant regret in my life. The other thing you...

I am one of those very lucky people to be part of the kindness, giving and, love from Bob Sand and Family.
I sit here today reading the note he wrote to me on my 18th Birthday. With a story behind it. This is what it says. 12/12/1972, Dear Maureen, Today is a milestone for you. Your eighteenth birthday has, I know, been a point in your life you have anticipated for a long time. Congratuatons!
As you know this a turning point. You are now an adult with all the privilages as well as...

It was my pleasure to have known him for the past few years serving on our beloved Alma Maters Alumni Board. I aspire to be half as helpful to the college as he has been through the years. We will all miss him from ESF. I'm sorry I won't be in town to attend his memorial service, Sincerely, Gary Lipp

I knew Bob & Lu when our family attended the Methodist Church in Odessa some 50 years ago. My mom (Elizabeth Appleton) played the organ while Lu conducted the choir. I began to obtain my love for music at their feet.
