Not sure what to say?

As I return to the berry fields again this year, as always I am reminded of picking the Schlegel fields of our youth, and Robbie driving the old truck, "the crummie,"even at the age of 12 or so. I will always miss him and his beautiful art.

Thinking of Robert today and his great family! A person´s most valuable legacy is his or her family & Robert truly has one of the BEST! Peace & Love,

I met Rob when we were kids picking berries on his family farm. He had a contagious joy about him even then. I will always miss his gentle nature and supreme art abilities.

I worked at the Lawrence Gallery from 2005-2010, which is where I had the privilege of meeting and talking with Robert several times. I also met his brother once. He was so kind and quiet and bright, I couldn't help but be drawn to him. I remember his paintings of beach houses which had the spirit of place in them - so strong that you could smell the sea! And the big birds, at once, regal and playful. I created an entire show in on of the galleries within our space. And it did well. ...

I saw a picture of Walking Bird 5 in the announcement of the August group show at the Harris/Howard gallery in Seattle. I moved from Seattle four years ago and receive the SADA magazine. I fell in love with the bird and only today I realized I had the perfect place for it. Walking Bird was sold as well as every piece in the show. I´m sorry for your loss and for mine, as well. Mr. Schlegel´s art is a reflection of a beautiful soul. I wish I had been able to have just a small part of that.

Dear family of Bob Schlegel, Our sincere condolences on Bob's passing....I just heard about. Bob was one of my friends who inspired and encouraged me in pursuing an art career! Unfortunately we haven't had any time to catch up during 'Covid Times'. His great sense of humor and art talent will be missed. Sincerely, F.X.Rosica & Sara Behrman

I just heard from Cass today about Rob´s passing. I am very saddened by this news. I remember him from our childhood, picking strawberries on one of the Schlegel farms in Banks, and I so admired him and his art and talent when we reconnected at life drawing sessions in Portland. What a fine, gifted, warm person.

We are so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a talented artist who readily shared his ideas and his wonderful art. We loved his work and enjoyed a number of engaging conversations with him. We treasure his recent book of drawings. Our sincere condolences to his family.

A loss, I know, to family and friends, but also a real loss to those of us who love the art of the Pacific NW. I've come to know his work through Hanson's Gallery, on "Art Beat", and elsewhere. His contribution to humankind stands.
