Not sure what to say?

It was perhaps in the early 1980s. I was a Dad of 2 kids, not making much money, and had no health insurance. But I also had a large bulge on my neck, for which my Dentist & dear friend in Newport had deliberately referred me to Dr. Sofferman for surgery in Burlington. Well I remember his pleasantness in the pre-op evaluation appointment. Not only did he reassure he could help, but he also clearly said, "of course, there will be no charge for my services." He knew. Amazing. What a gift...

Memorable moments will never be forgotten for the many years I had the privilege of working with Dr. Sofferman in the OR. His dedication and professional acuity was apley displayed during his surgeries to all the OR staff as well as for the medical and resident students and fellow surgeons alike.

I was the reason Dr. Sofferman was late for dinner the day of my surgery in late June `92. In fact, he didn´t arrive home until early the next day. I am forever indebted to Dr. Sofferman for enduring such a long surgery and thus saving my life.

I still remember Dr. Sofferman from time to time and a smile comes along with the wonderful memories I have of been privileged to work with him in the OR. He always came into the OR room in a pleasant manner and most times set up his music tapes before starting his surgical procedures!! Although a perfectionist in his surgical skill and knowledge, he was always willing to share and teach the residents and medical students in the various procedures he did and was quite patient with them...

I had the pleasure and privilege to work with Dr. Sofferman for 28 years in the O.R. at the former Medical Center Hospital of VT. My respect and love for him throughout all those years never wavered as I watched in awe of the professionalism and surgical talent that he aptly displayed at all times. His keen sense of humor and pleasing personality and smile always helped to calm his patients' anxieties as well as the staff who were assigned to work with him during his surgical procedures. ...

"Tom, I know what a normal thyroid feels like". 18 years ago, Bob saved my life when he discovered what others had missed, a thyroid nodule, which proved malignant.
A fine fellow; A caring physician and surgeon.
Tom Bates, M.D.

I had the priviledge of working in the OR with Bob for about 30 years. He was kind, thoughtful, patient, funny, and an excellent surgeon. While I did not particulary like ENT surgery, working with him made it SO much more fun and I knew I would have a good day with him. I hadn't see him since I left FAHC, but the world is a little less bright due to his passing. My thoughts and prayers to his family.
Jane McLaughlin, Huntington VT

We have lost one of the special people in our specialty. A unique person always with a smile on his face, wise but humerous statements to make, he will be missed by all. Bob is one of the best residents I had the pleasure and privilege to help train. One of my distinct pleasures I had was to present him the Mosher Award for the outstanding clinical Triological Thesis in 1994. My thoughts and prayers go out to Barb and family

I add my plaudettes to Bob Sofferman--the person, the otolaryngologist, teacher, athlete, academician, and fiend.
He is the best all around physician in our specialty, that I have had the honor and privilege to train . It was a high light of my career while serving as Triological Society President to award the Mosher Award to Bob in 1994 for his outstanding thesis in clinical research for otolaryngology.

One thing that was most unique about Bob is the smile that he...
