Not sure what to say?

My sincere condolences to Bob's family and Jacquelyn. I attended the memorial for Bob and it was such a fitting event for him; beautiful day, beautiful place, on the water, boats going by, kids laughing and running, music playing and loads of people sharing stories about this wonderful man. Bob Sperling was a hero to me. I met him in 2007 when I was assigned to my first tour of duty at BSP. He not only fixed everything, replaced everything, showed us how to do everything, but also had...

My sincere condolences to Bob's family and Jacquelyn. I attended the memorial, which was so fitting for his memory. Beautiful day, beautiful place, on the water, boats going by, kids laughing, music playing and loads of people sharing stories about this wonderful man. I met Bob in 2007 on my first tour of duty at BSP. Bob was and is a hero to me. Not only did he fix everything and replace everything at all of the lighthouses, but he somehow always had time to listen to our complaints,...

Dear Sperling Family and Jacqueline, we all have lost a dear person that meant so much to many of us in so many different, yet many of the same, ways. Robert was so passionate about so many things and everything he did he was determined to do 150% or more. I don't believe I will ever forget his smile and the stories he told about the lighthouse keepers. There is a sadness in my heart and I look forward to the day when I will see Robert again. I am so thankful that he is out of pain though...

We first met Bob in the late '90's when we became keepers at Big Sable. Saw him a few times after that when we were keepers again. Last saw him in 2008 when we were keepers at Little Sable. WE were working with Pat & Marlene Perry at Little Sable and Bob, myself and Pat were instrumental in carrying a refurbished prism up to the lens at Little Sable. Bob was always cheerful and ready to tackle any new jobs. He took a lot of lighthouse knowledge with him. He will be sorely missed by everyone...

When we were "hosts" at Ludington State Park, Bob spent lots of time working at the lighthouse. The outhouses he built are especially attractive! He was always friendly and informative.

I am sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I first met Bob in 1998 and I looked forward yearly of seeing him while voluntering at Sable lights. I visited his house several times in Holland and at other times kept in contact via postal email. I borrowed his kayak once, and on another occasion, he,my son and I kayaked together. I have way too many memerories to enumerate, but his problem solving abilities, vast knowledge, and friendship will be forever treasured. May he rest in peace with the Lord....

I met Bob in 2002 when Elaine and I became volunteer keepers at Big Sable. He appointed me to the SPLKA board, and we worked together for 7 years on the board. I remember the time he offered to let us climb Little Sable after we closed up Big Sable for the evening our first year. That was before we had control of Little Sable, and before it was open to the public. He told us to wear our oldest clothes, and not to breathe in on the way up. I thought LS was in very poor condition, but he...

Bob and I were little kids together on Fairmount St. Our parents remained friends. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He obviously would have been a great person to know.

To the family of Bob I would like to send my most gracious blessings. I worked with Bob for many years at GM/Delphi. We went through our apprenticeships together and were Machine Repairman at the same time until Bob went into the Toolroom. Great person and fun to be around. Man did he ever love his sailboats and sailing. He will be missed and now he will be one of Gods guiding lights. God Bless.
