A fan-friendly player. I had the privilege as a boy of corresponding with him. I had the opportunity to see him hit the PH grandslam against the Pirates for the Mets. Being a lifelong Mets fan he was among my all time favorite Mets. Truly a nice person.

Sam: Dont know if u remember me from ur SWB Red Barons days. I also was great fan of Hawk, having seen him many times at Pologrounds/Shea. He cancelled his subscription to Baseball America as a protest when the Phillies dropped you!!! He told me that, and you told me many great stories about him and being at Shea for fomily days!
