Bob and I worked together in Alaska at the University. One interesting project was a winter visit to Earl Pilgrim's old Stampede Mine. We hired Paul Metz to fly us in and then cross country skiied to the site. Each of us took turns breaking trail. It was brutal but we got there and back and even managed to collect some ore. We also spent some time driving around in his jeep looking at gold mines in the Fairbanks district. He liked getting out and trying to create something out of nothing. ...
