TROTT, Robert "Back River Bob" April 25, 2020. He passed peacefully at his home in Weymouth overlooking the Back River. Born December 24, 1933 in Quincy, MA to John and Margaret Trott. Brother to the late John Edward Trott. Married to the late Lorraine. Survived by his beloved children, Joanne Meehan, John and his wife Denise, Michael and his wife Linda, Margaret, Christopher and his spouse Erick, Roberta Levesque, Wesley Hardin and his wife Susan, and Mark Hardin. "Papa" to his grandchildren, Megan, Thomas, Caroline, John, William, John, Samantha, Emily, Brian, Michael, Daniel, Patrick, Rebecca, Vanessa and Rachael, Helen, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bob grew up in Quincy and graduated Quincy Trade School; he thereafter joined the Army and served in the Korean War. The military trained Bob as a wartime radio operator and he would tap out Morse Code right up until the time of his passing. He worked in Fore River Shipyard after his service in the military. He later taught at Quincy Vocational Technical High and taught welding for over 30 years. He is fondly remembered by many of his students who stayed in contact with Bob for many years after they graduated.

Bob had a wide range of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, camping, kayaking and hiking in his backyard playground, Esker Park. He was a founding member of the Adams Heights Men's Club. Upon retirement, he honed his wood carving skills. Bob was a voracious reader and his passion was American history. He was able to fulfill this fascination by embarking on the Lewis and Clark Trail and he paid tribute to his fellow veterans on the Band of Brothers tour to Normandy and Omaha Beach. For his 80th birthday, he skydived from an airplane with his granddaughters.

Bob had a consistently buoyant spirit. Whenever asked how he was doing, his established response was "Terrific!" He was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was blessed with sincere optimism and joy to the core of his being.

Normally, the Funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with Robert's family at this time, friends may still offer their support by visiting www.Keohane.com and sharing a special memory or message. For those who cannot access the website, please call 781-335-0045 to have your message added.

Funeral Services will be private. Friends and family will gather together for a Memorial Mass, at a time and date to be announced, in Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's memory to South Shore VNA.

Not sure what to say?

I really have so many GREAT things to say about my friend Bob. First let me say how sorry I am that you lost an incredible man and TEACHER. I was fortunate enough to be in his welding class from 1982-1986 in fact in 1986 I was the only kid in his class needless to say we didn't do much welding but he sure taught me to fish. He used to blow cigar smoke on the worms and say that is why I catch them. I will remember many things about him but I will always remember January 1986 when the space...

I first became his paperboy in 1966 and then became a neighbor 20 years later. Always just a wonderful, positive influence and someone who contributed to the beauty and enjoyment of Great Esker Park and our neighborhood. I
worked third shift for years, and would often be in the yard at the crack of dawn working on my house, lawn or walkways on my days off,and he'd always stop on his way to school around 6:00 AM and laughingly call me "Midnight Construction Company" and just pass the time...

I just learned of Bob's passing...one of the best and happiest teachers at QHS where I once served as Asst. Principal. He served his students with utmost skill and care. His surviving immediate and extended family rightfully are justified to be so proud.

he was a awesome teacher, good guy, RIP

Peggy and Family. I am so sorry for your loss. May your wonderful memories of him bring you comfort at this sad time.

Bob was one of the nicest people to ever walk the earth. The pride in life was his family. He treated everyone like a brother or sister. Our world is little darker without his light. Everyone should aspire to be just like him, in the way we treat each other. He loved "Dunkies".

To Bob's family, I was so sad to hear of his passing, I also was a student of his, class of "76" metal fab class, two weeks after graduation he called me & three other classmates at home to inform us he had secured us a job at the Quincy Shipyard, graduating into the "real world" two weeks after high school helped shape me into the man I am today, he will be sorely missed....Jim Joyce Groton NH

It saddens me to read about Mr. Trott's passing. I was a student of his in the graduating class of '77. He was a kind person and a mentor to countless kids, always instilling knowledge and laughter! I remember his little "post It" notes with a memo printed "A thought from Trott" on the top along with a little sketch that looked remarkably like him! I have since retired and moved to Florida but read the Ledger every day. I remember reading a Ledger article a little over a year ago about Bob,...
