A History and Science Buff
There were no limits to Robert Twomey's love for history and science. Botany, entomology, viniculture, the Civil War: he was always reading something and loved talking about it. "He retained everything," said his wife, Marie Twomey.

Mr. Twomey, 48, did graduate work in biology in his 20's, but never finished his dissertation and got into finance when he and his wife had the first of their two boys 18 years ago. He worked as a trader on the American Stock Exchange with Ric Harvey, his brother-in-law, at Harvey Young Yurman, and dreamed of retiring to teach in public school. On Sept. 11, he was at a weekly breakfast meeting at Windows on the World.

When he was not reading, he loved to ride his bike from his home in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, to Breezy Point, Queens. He knew a lot about Sheepshead Bay, where his family had lived for more than a century. It was one of the many things he shared with his wife, whom he married when they were both 19. "I'm living in the house my grandparents bought in 1905," Mrs. Twomey said. "Bob's father played in the construction site of this house."

Not sure what to say?

Bob, myself and the late Dr.John coached our kids in the Our Lady of Grace basketball when our sons played together. Sean and Declan. Bob and Marie were our friends. Bob was a true gentleman with a great sense of humor. We remember Bob each and every year and pray for Marie and the family. Sincerely, Donald and Denise McManamon

Here in Australia 9/11 is significant and I just seen a documentary on survivors and those who perished and wondered if there was a Twomey on that memorial wall, after visiting NYC in 2016 and paying my respects I know that we are all inter related in some aspects, it´s an Irish surname, usually hailing from County Cork, I as an Aussie only see Americans as brothers and sisters with a different accent, God Bless and God Speed, and we always can connect on Facebook

Living in “Married Housing,” Denise and I were neighbors and close to Bob and Marie while we were grad students at UGA. On trip to NYC during the summer of 1978, Bob helped me get my Olympus OM2, which I used in Guatemala where Denise and I served as Peace Corps volunteers. Bob (and Marie) was simply “good people.” Every 9/11, I think about him. Peace be with you and yours.

Was a smart funny guy who I enjoyed talking to whenever he came to my post to do an order. Proud to call him a friend.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!
REST IN PEACE BOB!

On the first anniversary, I found Robert's name on a CNN memorial page. Then I researched some more and found the name of his colleague who took over his accounts at the firm. I told her that we were likely distant counsins who never knew each other as the Twomeys left Ellis Island and scattered. I told her that this Canadian Twomey with family in the US was thinking of her friend. Nine months later, her husband wrote back saying that she was touched by my note but was too devastated to write...

Today, in Sarasota Florida, a memorial to commemorate 9/11 was held in the National Cemetery.
It was an amazing memorial reminding us as Americans how blessed we are in this country and how quickly evil can disrupt and hurt our lives individually and as a nation.
The survivors and victims of 9/11 were honored as well as their families.
I had the honor of reading Robert T. Twomey's name during the observance. We prayed for his family. Blessings.

Science, biology yes Bob was a guy who really was into them. But once he had Emeric and Robert, he so loved the role of Dad. He coached Emerics' basketball games and would converse with Robert as though he was a peer. That is where I see the sad sad loss. What a fun sweet guy. I do miss that guy! He really was more like a brother than my sisters husband.

I remember your laugh to this day. You were always happy. I always loved that about you. Thank you for making me smile everday Bobby.
