A Memorial to My Beloved Husband, Captain Robert Van Osdol
June 1, 2007

Bob, my beloved husband, my best friend, my soul mate, my companion, and my "everything"-

Bob Van Osdol, you were a man of quality, generosity, and my Hero. The happiest day of my life was the day you became my husband. The saddest was the day I lost you, a year ago today.

You are an American Patriot who proudly volunteered for duty the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor and you continued to...

Bob

The time I spent with you gave me a clear understanding of the kind of man you were. Your disposition was kind and loving, always treating others with the same respect you required of them. Every person you came in contact with was a friend. I especially enjoyed the times we went out for Sushi with you and Mary!

Your love for your wife was evident. To see the look in your eyes when she entered the room or the way you gazed at her at the table was a testament of your...

I am sorry I have taken so long to write something to you Bob. I hope you understand my tardiness is because the loss of you has left an immense gap in many lives that, alone, I cannot or could not even attempt to fill.

There are so many facets to your life, so many unbelievable and incredible things you have been through, that finding one word to describe your life would be unjust. However, if I could apply one adjective to you Bob it would be a survivor.

Throughout your...

Mrs. Van Osdal,

My condolences on the loss of Captain. I have vivid memories while growing up in Ridgelea Hills of spending time with him doing numerous projects in the backyard, always amazed at what he was doing from one day to the next. You both were always so kind and welcoming to me every time that I came over to the house. Captain sold me my first car for $1 when I got my license. I had not seen Captain in some time, but he is a man that I will never forget. I will be out...

Uncle Bob:

It was very hard to lose another family member on the same day, 1 year later. I am sad that you are no longer with us. You are sorely missed, not only by Aunty Mary, but by all of us young people who were fortunate enough to have you in their lives. You were a true gentleman. I have the utmost respect for you as a person and you have many traits and characteristics that I envy and look up to you for. I enjoyed our times together and I appreciate you being such a warm...

To the VanOsdol Family:

Bob was a wonderful boss when I worked for the Military Sealift Command and was a best friend.
He was a man of giving, compassionate, and with great sense of humor. Please accept our deepest symphathy. We will miss him... May God bless him in peace.

June, Jennifer, Rich

...My sincerest condolences to all members of Capt. Van Osdol's family. I share your sadness, Van and I were friends in high school in Tiffin, OH and shortly thereafter served together aboard the USS New Mexico in the South Pacific during 1942.
