Not sure what to say?

My husband and I were married in 1962 and will celebrate 50 years of marriage on August 4. Dr. Vaughn was the minister of my in-laws, Bob and Catherine Stinnett in Petersburg at that time. Dan and I lived in Arlington and were frequent visitors to Second Pres in Petersburg during the early years of our marriage. Dr. and Mrs. Vaughan gave us a beautiful figurine when our daughter, Tracey, was born and it is still proudly displayed in her home in Urbana, Maryland. We will never forget the...

Hugh, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was truly a remarkable man and I am blessed to have known him and your mother. My mother passed away in February, and I know the loss that you are feeling now is so very painful. But they will always be with us; and you will see and think of your father in everything that you do. And I pray that you find comfort in these loving memories. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Vaughan's incredible journey on earth touched thousands of hearts. The remarks made by my friends Frank Dunbar and Donna Allen express the sentiments of so many Christians whose cornerstones of faith were begun or enhanced by Dr. Vaughan's teachings and nurturing. My parents, Catherine and Bob Stinnett, joined Second Presbyterian in 1962 and shortly thereafter I also joined having completed Communicant's class taught by Dr. Vaughan. His friendship, dedication, and passion for...

I have had the privilledge and honor of knowning Dr.Vaughan since he accepted the call to serve as our pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Petersburg in 1957. Even at the age of seven(7),I loved to hear him preach and I always looked forward with anticipation to his "children's sermon" on Sunday mornings. But more than his phenomenal preaching abilities,it was his kindness, his gentle nature and his gift for being so nurturing that will always mean so much to me.
Above all of my...

A great man. He was an inspiration and role model for us all.

Rob, I am sorry to hear about the death of your father. He was a wonderful man, whom I remember fondly. Do you remember when, in high school, we were listening to a Dick Gregory comedy album in your living room and he said that the humor might do more good than all the protests to get rid of segregation? That was the insight and gentle wisdom I remember from him.

My thoughts are with you.

Such a great man. My family thought the world of him. He was my pastor at 2nd Presbyterian for many years. A great loss for this world, but a wonderful celebration in the next.

Bob Vaughan was a marvelous pastor whose valuable teachings are still remembered and quoted. He was a true model of what a Christian should be: accepting, practical, patient, tolerant and non-judgmental --he had the whole package and was as close to Jesus as we'll ever see on this earth. In addition he was a dear forever friend. He said once he never knew if his preaching bore fruit; we believe it produced orchards.

Having the good fortune to live next-door to Dr. Vaughan meant that his intellect and his kindness were constant gifts throughout my childhood. To his dear family, Alanna, Jeremy, and I wish lifetimes and generations of wonderful memories of a great man.
