Owens and Brumley Funeral Home - Wichita Falls Obituary

Robert “Gene” Wagner, 80, of Wichita Falls passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 18, 2021.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 in the Chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls with Rev. Larry Shields officiating.  Interment with Wichita Falls Police Dept. Honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. 


Gene was born on February 17, 1941 in Wichita Falls to the late Melvin and Dorothy (Lindsey) Wagner.  He married Shirley Brown on August 11, 1958, and the couple were married 57 years until her passing in 2016.  Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy, and then joined the Wichita Falls Police Department, where he served for 32 years until his retirement.  Gene worked in many areas of the of the Police Department, but truly enjoyed training new officers, and especially his time spent working with the Motorcycle Division.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; sister Susie Sanders; and brother Tony Wagner.


Gene is survived by son Robert E. Wagner Jr. of Azle; daughter Laura Hoff and husband Mark of Windthorst; grandson Evan Hoff of Windthorst; and brother Melvin F. Wagner Jr. of Summerville, South Carolina.

So sorry to hear of Gene's passing. I worked with him a number of times when I was in Parks & Recreation. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
