Robert Wait

Every year my dad, brother, and I would go fishing in Canada with Bob. In this obituary there is a picture of Bob in a boat holding a Walleye, the back ground in the picture is Canada. It took me back. That is exactly how I remembered him. Old blue jeans, ball cap and sunglasses. He was so happy and having so much fun. He was a great guy. He was my High school principal, and latter a good fishing partner.

A good teacher, principal, colleague, and most of all a great friend! God Bless You Bob! (We will go fishing on the Bessie River again!)

Bob was a wonderful, kind man with a warm, big smile and an earnest interest in people. Many of my little kid memories involve the Wait kids and the tri-level home on the hill with tons of fun and adventures to be had.

I had him for a class when I was a freshman(1966) I think it was his first year of teaching. I really liked him. He was a good teacher. We also went to the same church. I'm sorry he had to suffer with cancer. My heart goes out to the family. Heaven has gained another angel.

I am deeply grateful for the leadership and kindness that Mr. Wait consistently demonstrated. No matter where I encountered him-whether at school, in the community, or after his retirement at his beloved Rainbow Grill in Hudsonville-he always had a warm smile and took the time to ask how things were going. Bob made a great contribution the students lives in Byron Center. He will be remembered by many for his compassion.. I heard many good stories about Bob when teaching in Byron Center.

Mr. Wait was the principal of my school in 1977. I interacted with him on occasion and saw him doing his thing every day. He was a great guy and I know he was respected by most of us students. He is included as one of my best memories of high school. I´m very sad to hear about his cancer fight and loss.
