When I met Bob at the Mews in Greenwich about a year ago, he brought me back to my childhood and early adulthood when I would frequently shopped at his family-owned Kaplan's Department Store; one of the first stores in Port Chester to install an elevator, and the fancy cash shoot that literally shot the cash through a tube to the top floor billing office when you paid at the register- He was a fixture there, always smiling, gracious and helpful to all who his customers - He never lost that...

Bob was a dear person and friend. I enjoyed the company of Bob and Janet over the years through the Stamford camera club and other Greenwich venues. They were such enthusiasts with their photography pursuits especially capturing nature in unique ways. I learned a lot watching Bob set up his tripod at the Botanical Gardens and waiting for the light. I photographed Bob at the Salute To Veterans in Greenwich several times. Goodbye, Bob. It has been a treasure to know you for so many years at our camera club. I never knew your wife, but if cicumstances permit say hello to her and Janet, too. And you were a great photographer.

I knew Bob through the Camera Club, meeting him when I joined in 1996. He was a major player and a guiding force at that time. His dedication, creativity and general spirit and good nature made the Club a great place to learn and socialize. He was a good friend, and willing to give support and guidance when asked.
His presence has been missed over the past few years, and now there is a definite loss.

He was lucky to have had a long life, and was a true survivor. I am sure...
