Robert L. Widick

Robert L. Widick, age 80, of Council Bluffs, passed away August 14, 2013, at his home.

Bob was born on July 18, 1933, and was one of five children born to the late Cecil C. and Ilene H. (Pratt) Widick.

Bob grew up in Stanhope, Iowa and after finishing school he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. He served in Korea and Okinawa. During the service he went 34 months without returning to the states. He discharged after 4 years in Victoria, Texas.

Bob married Nancy Hiatt on October 9, 1956 and they were blessed with 7 children. In 1968 the family moved to Carson, Iowa and remained there until Bob and Nancy divorced in 1986. Bob moved to Council Bluffs in 2006.

Bob worked as a mechanic for Schueman Transfer in Oakland for a number of years. He then founded his own business, Air Tech Refrigeration. At age 64 he sold that business and became an owner/operator semi-truck driver.

Bob was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs where he sang in the choir. He was a past member of the Macedonia Assembly of God Church and a member of the Eagles.

Bob loved music and played the guitar, mandolin, bass and piano. He was a great singer and participated in country jam sessions. Bob loved his family and always attended the annual four-day reunion on his brother, Dewayne's farm near Stanhope, Iowa.

In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Seiser.

Bob is survived by his children, Robert Widick, Raymond Widick (Kathy), Ronald Widick, Carol Beard (Gene), Linda Hill, Roger Widick and Richard Widick; companion and soul mate of 9 years, Juanita Andrews and her children, Everett Collins (Sally) and Vicki Rodriguez (Pete); brothers, Clinton Widick (Alice), Dewayne Widick (Vervel); sister, Alveda Kent (Jerry); brother-in-law, Gerald Seiser; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.

Visitation is Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. Funeral service is Saturday, 10 a.m., at the funeral home followed by a luncheon in the community room at Hoy-Kilnoski. Cortege will leave the funeral home after lunch for burial in the Carson, Iowa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southwest Iowa.
