Robert (Bob) James Woodhouse was born in Bangor, Maine on 1/4/1946 to James Edwin Woodhouse, MD (Family Practice Physician) and Florence Larson (Registered Nurse). Following service during WWII, the young family relocated to Bradford Pennsylvania to set up a medical practice. Robert attended public school, graduating from Bradford Area High School in 1963, where he happened to be classmates with a girl named Toby. He headed to Denison Ohio for college, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Physics, then transitioned to University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1968 to pursue a degree in Medical Physics. While there, through roommates, he met that same girl Toby again (who was rather cute by now) and after two years of dating, a loving marriage of nearly 50 years ensued. He completed military service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base 1969-1971 and then worked at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland from 1971-1973. Both facilities benefited from his expertise to monitor radiation equipment on base. He ultimately decided to translate his knowledge of Medical Physics into clinical practice and attended Thomas Jefferson medical college 1973-1977, to earn his medical degree and then continued at UC San Francisco 1977-1981 pursuing a residency in Radiation Oncology. During that time, daughter Kimberley was born. As a family they moved to Orange County, California to pursue a career in Radiation Oncology, which spanned 36 years, caring for thousands of oncology patients. Over this time he held many roles, serving on various hospital committees, as Medical Director of his group, and was awarded numerous recognitions including "Top 10 Doctor-Metro Area (2014)", "Patients Choice Award (2012)," and "Compassionate Doctor Award (2012)." His dedication to patient care inspired his daughter Kim to follow in his footsteps and also pursue a career in medicine. During all of these years of devoted medical practice he remained equally dedicated to pursuing other passions, including camping, hiking, jogging, biking, tennis, golf, travel and simply spending time with family and all the special friends made during each stage of his life. Love of international travel took him to five of the seven continents. His love of camping and hiking took his family to countless National Parks. The Grand Canyon was no doubt his favorite, where on two occasions he trekked from the North Rim to the South Rim in a single day. Later in life he cherished time with his young grandsons. He is survived and forever loved by his wife Toby Herzog Woodhouse, daughter Dr. Kim Woodhouse Middleton, two grandsons Tyler James Middleton (7) and Tristan Sawyer Middleton (4), and brother Gary Woodhouse. In lieu of a funeral he preferred a simple ceremony with immediate family to visit and spread his ashes over the Grand Canyon, one of his favorite places.

Not sure what to say?

It has now been two years since my dad passed, which on some level is a long time, and on another still seems surreal and I still find myself in processing mode. Through it all, I remain grateful, every day, for the amazing dad he was to me throughout my lifetime, devoting free time to teach me, play with me, train me on shared sports interests, enrich me with travels and experiences, and inspire me with his approach to friendships, family relationships, and patient care all with love and...

Father's Day 2019.
Last year the kids sent up balloons to heaven.
This year, we went around the dinner table remembering our favorite memories and qualities of my dad.
Tyler immediately remembered our trip to Disneyland, and riding Space Mountain. He remembered that Grandpa bob was funny, and kind and always wanted to play with them.
Tristan immediately remembered him as funny and goofy and making him laugh.
They frequently reference times spent playing baseball and...

I just became aware of Bob's passing. We were old friends and classmates, graduating in 1963 from Bradford High School. Bob gave me my very first lessons in Chess. My Mother was a Registered Nurse and worked for several years in Bob and Gary's Father's Office (Dr. Woodhouse). I am deeply saddened by the passing of a "good man and old friend". My belated condolences to Bob's immediate and extended families.

Happy Father's Day Grandpa Bob. We will always love and remember you. -Tyler and Tristan

A tribute to my amazing Dad for Father's Day, 2018.

Dr. Woodhouse was very kind and generous to me during the time I was privileged to work with him. He was highly respected by the medical staff and we will all miss him. - submitted on behalf of Dr. Schenk

I had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. Woodhouse for 4 years. On a professional level, he truly was the epitome of a hardworking, conscientious, and dedicated physician. He deservedly was very well respected by both his patients and his colleagues. Dr. Woodhouse was known for his jovial and witty nature, as well as his ability to really connect and empathize with his patients ... a rare combination. He truly was a one-of-a-kind physician. On a personal level, I came to call him a...

Dear Cousin Toby & Kim. I just found out about Bob's passing and I am heart broken for you all. I remember Bob as a warm, unselfish, and funny man. I know my mom took great comfort in his guidance during the period after Dori had her brain aneurysm. I hope you are all finding comfort in wonderful memories and the warm embrace of family & friends. Sending you love from Maine.
