Robert Wright, age 94, passed away on January 22. Bob is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marjorie (Thomas) Wright. Bob was the youngest of six children born to Robert Ernest and Kate Eliza (Maw) Wright. He is predeceased by his parents and older siblings John Ernest Wright, Eileen (Wright) Smith, Joan (Wright) Weber, Roberta (Wright) McDonough, and Vincent Wright.
Bob grew up in Stratford where he attended several different elementary schools and graduated from Stratford High in 1948. Though he knew Marjorie (Marge) for many years while in school, they didn't start dating until they both got jobs at CR&L Bus Lines. They were married by 1951 and started their family of three children. Bob attended night school and graduated from Bridgeport Engineering Institute in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. They moved to Trumbull in 1962 and resided there until 1995, when they relocated to South Carolina. In 2003 they moved back to their long-time residence in Trumbull where they lived until 2020 when they moved to New Britain to live with family. Bob worked for several different companies during his long career, designing and earning patents on many different types of machines. He also founded and ran several engineering and manufacturing companies along with his best friend and business partner Chet Segala. He retired from full time work in his late 70s but did not stop working. He ran a home remodeling company and worked as an independent Technical Inspector before finally retiring at 90 years old because of the Covid pandemic.
Bob was born to be an engineer. He could repair anything that had a motor or mechanical parts and he always had a project going somewhere. Other than fixing things, he had two main hobbies: golfing and vegetable gardening. He and Marge golfed primarily at Tashua Knolls in Trumbull but travelled up and down the east coast on golfing vacations with their close friends
Joe and Karen DiBartolo. While in South Carolina he hit a hole-in-one. No one was more surprised than he was. His love of vegetable gardening started when he moved to Trumbull and didn't stop until he moved away. Friends and family were gifted fresh vegetables for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, his two sons David Wright and wife Carol of Washington State, Robert Wright and wife Dahlia of Florida, and his daughter Lynda Ryba and husband Christopher of New Britain, CT with whom he lived. Seven grandchildren, Jason Wright, Aaron Wright, Justin Wright, Chris Ryba, Lindsay Ryba Boller, Casey Ryba Cartiera, Stephanie Ryba Winnie and sister-in-law Charlotte (Bauer) Severance. He also leaves 15 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
He was a calm, quiet, and very intelligent man who leaves a large empty space in our lives. He will be remembered with love and with thankfulness that we had him for 94 years.
No services are planned at this time. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
