Robert Yoder Obituary

Robert (Bob) Pegram Yoder
December 19, 1932 - September 7, 2022
Raleigh, North Carolina - Robert Pegram Yoder, 89, of Raleigh, passed peacefully away on Wednesday, September 7th, at Abbotswood at Stonehenge. Bob was born December 19th, 1932, to the late William L. Yoder and his wife, Catherine Yoder. He is also predeceased in death by his brother, James K. Yoder, and step-brother, William L. Yoder, Jr.
Bob lived almost all of his life in the home in which he was raised, on Saint Mary's Street. He attended Hayes Barton School and graduated from Broughton High School. He attended Wake Forest University, where he graduated with a B.A.
Bob had three passions in life. He loved music, traveling and collecting antiques. He was a dedicated supporter of the North Carolina Symphony, and looked forward to attending the Symphony concerts every year.
He played in the marching band at Wake Forest football games. In addition, a particular honor for Bob, was accompanying Joan Sloan, wife of Norm Sloan, former NCSU basketball coach, at the Wolfpack games. Bob accompanied Joan on the organ as she sang the National Anthem at the basketball games.
Bob loved to travel, and made several trips to Europe. During the last years of his life he traveled to Washington DC, Mount Vernon, the outer banks, including sailing on the ferry to Ocracoke island.
On his last trip to Europe he stayed in a 400 year old home in the Northamptonshire countryside village of Glapthorn. While there, he decided to spend a day in Paris. Bob got up very early one morning and took the train from Peterborough to London. From there he boarded the Eurostar train, going underneath the English Channel, to the Gare du Nord station in Paris. From he took a taxi to the Eiffel Tower, the took a boat ride on the Seine river to Notre Dame. After this he took the underground train to Sacre-Coeur, where enjoyed the beautiful view of Paris from the elevated vantage point of Montmartre. In the afternoon, tired but very happy, he took the train back to London.
Bob loved antiques and was also an antiques dealer, enjoying visits to antique fairs in New York and the east coast. He had a varied antique collection, but his pride and joy was his collection of Chinese and Japanese monochrome. He requested that his antique collection be taken care of with an estate sale by Leland Little auctions.
Bob spent two years in the US Army, as a cryptographer, stationed near Sandia Air Force Base in New Mexico. After his return home he worked as an insurance underwriter with the North Carolina Rate Bureau.
A simple graveside service for family and friends will be held on Monday, September 19th, at 2pm, at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Ruth Streets Adult Day Care Center, 228 W. Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC, 27603.
