It is interesting that I've been feeling a strong sadness and absence of Rochelle these past few days. I couldn't remember the exact day she died in the summer and here it is, she died 2 days ago, 3 years ago. So much has happened since then and I do think about her often. I always called her my surrogate mom. She was a part of my life since I was 5. We lost touch when I was 11 and then I sought her out when I was 21. I was looking for strong female role models in my life when we reconnected. She was always very generous with me. She would fly my down to Austin yearly to spend time together and reminisce for the next 20 + years (i'm 46 now). I appreciated her wisdom, her humor, and generosity. I learned a long time ago that suffering is cyclical and I will forever mourn her not being here to call or visit. She asked me to try to return the favor for someone younger like she did for me. I will do my best Rochelle. You are missed forever.

With heartfelt sympathy for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1,2)

I am so sad to read about Shelly's passing. I loved my talks with her at Red Bud Isle, as we walked our dogs, and talked about the struggles that my family went through at the time. She was an excellent listener, and always had some great advice. Helping her sell her home on Jefferson as her agent was bittersweet, as it meant she was leaving Austin. I know she was ill, because I called her earlier this year and she told me. Recently, I tried calling her again but got no answer or call back, so I feared the worst. My sympathy goes out to her family, first and foremost to Doug who relied on her so heavily. Rest in peace, sweet lady!

To many of us, Shelly was known as "The Queen of Red Bud Isle", a title she never asked for, but earned,by her presence that was so regal. Her leadership skills, intelligence and wisdom were impossible to ignore. She loved all the dogs and was so dedicated to their happiness & well being. She loved my dog,Madeleine.I hope they find each other joyously,in the great beyond. I will miss her wonderful mind and example. The world has lost a great member of the human race.We can all learn from her life.

I'm so sad to learn of Shelly's passing. After she moved to Colorado I always thought of her walking her dogs in the cool breezes while we sweltered at the neighborhood unofficial dog park. I saw her every morning for years and she was always so sweet and welcoming and kind to my dogs. They knew her as the Treat Lady. My deepest condolences to Doug and the family.

We are sad to hear of her passing. She was a very special dear friend of Ardyth. They shared yoga practice for more than 20 years together.
One of our fondest memories will be our Thanksgiving day tradition.

My condolences to Dr. Satterfield's family. A kind and gentle truth teller, she helped me heal some childhood traumas. It's not an exaggeration to say that I am the parent I always wanted to be because of the healing and introspection that she helped me to have.

My condolences to the members of Shelly's family. I first met Shelly in about 1984 in a group therapy class with Earl Koile at UT. We had retreats at Laos House as part of our training. Shelly was smart, vulnerable, thoughtful, and full of life. I'm glad I got the chance to know her. Jan Morris
