RODERICK W. PUGH

Professor Roderick Pugh had a long and distinguished career. He taught- it seems forever at Loyola University of Chicago and was a part of their excellent Clinical Psychology Program. I was a Graduate Student in Clinical Psychology at Loyola (1979 -1985)and can testify to Prof Pughs amiable manner and the fact that he never seemed stressed, He was always busy and was probably pursuing some interest or another. Had a sense of humor. He never complained- Probably ready to entertain the Almighty.

Dr. Pugh was one of my fathers best friends, from high school until my father's death in 2007. Dr. Pugh was a wonderful person and always interesting. He was a gift to this world.

I was in great need of not only a professional counselor but a friend when I walked into Rod Pugh's tiny office on Michigan Avenue in the early 70s -- and I was very lucky to find both in this fine man. Witty, sophisticated, a lover of good music, he was an exceptional man in many ways. My friend John Olson and I gave him a trip to Charleston SC as a birthday present to show our gratitude for his benevolent influence in our lives. Rod Pugh was one of my father's (John H. Pickin) oldest friends from Steele High School. Dad was class of '35 but was good friends with Rod because they both played the violin in the orchestra.

Rod and my father stayed in touch and exchanged Christmas cards every year after their war years. I remember my father talking about him and his parents. Their friendship lasted a lifetime.
