RODNEY BANDUCCI

1955 - 2013

Obituary

Rodney Banducci November 16, 1955 - October 10, 2013 Rodney Banducci, 57, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on his farm in Buttonwillow on Thursday, October 10th. Rodney is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cindy Banducci, son Austin Banducci, daughter Kayla Castillo and her husband Joaquin Castillo, and his granddaughter McKenna Castillo. Rodney was an incredible father, husband, Nono and friend to all who knew him. At 6'8" tall, he was hard to miss when he walked into a room. Rodney played basketball at Shafter High School, and went on to play at Bakersfield College and Cal State Bakersfield, before he decided to return to Buttonwillow to help with the family farm. Farming was Rodney's legacy, and he often and fondly would refer to the black dirt farm land in Buttonwillow as "God's Country." The fact that Rodney died on his farm on the land that he loved has given a sense of peace to all who knew him. No one could have seen it happening anywhere else. Rodney married Cindy (Willard) Banducci, of Buttonwillow, when she was 17 and he was 23. They lived for a short time in Bakersfield before moving to Buttonwillow, and raised their two kids there. Rodney and Cindy had celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary in August. They were a true love story, the kind that only comes around once in a great while. Rodney took great pride in everything his kids did, and he loved watching and coaching their sports team, and spending time hunting with his son. His first granddaughter was born in 2012, and she shares his birthday. The family would like to extend our deepest thanks to all of our friends and family who have come out to Buttonwillow to offer their help, or just to sit and keep us company, we love and appreciate all of you. Also we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the firefighters and paramedics that responded to the scene and worked so hard to save him. The fact that they stayed with us until we left hours later will never be forgotten. The service will be Thursday, October17th at 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Graveside will be directly following at Shafter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marty Allen, David Freeborn, Robert Pino, Joey Barulich, Philip Esnoz, Jim Van Sickel, Jeff Crawford and Steve Houchin. Everyone who knew Rod knows how he felt about dressing up, so please dress casually and comfortably. DOUGHTY-CALHOUN-O'MEARA FUNERAL DIRECTORS www.bakersfield.com/obits

Not sure what to say?

Cindy our thoughts and prayers with you and your family. It was a shock to hear about Rodney's passing. We found out by accident as we were reading the Wasco Tribune when the article mentioned Austin scoring for the game and then it went on to mention the passing of Rodney. Jesse took it really hard as he could not believe the article. Hard to believe they worked together for 16 years on the farm. Please know that it was a pleasure to know him and he was a great man.Know also that he is often...

Cindy and Family, I am so very sorry to hear this news of Rodney passing. Please know we are praying for you all. God Bless, Becky (Moore) Mays

Heartfelt condolences to all the family and friends of a good man and good friend.

I am very sorry to hear of Rodney's passing. He was such a dear and kind man to work with here at the USDA office. Over the past 20 - 30 years when he came in the office for signup, he always wore the biggest smile. It was always an honor to work with Rodney, because he appreciated what we did to assist in the often confusing process. I and everyone here will remember him fondly.

We are very sorry to hear about Rodney. I know this is a difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Stay strong.

So sorry Cindy, you and Rod were kids when Gary and I lived in BW. His dad passed in the same manner-loving the ground where he worked. BTW your Gdaughter is beautiful.

It was an honor to know a great man like Rodney. It came as a shock to hear of his passing. He will be missed. I take comfort in knowing he shall be ever present in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rodney was the kind of man that though I am 6 foot 2, I looked up to not only in stature but with great respect.

Sending prayers on your behalf to the One who can comfort. I am so sorry for what you have experienced. It's sent ripples of grief all the way to North Carolina. Having never met Rodney, except through your photos, I saw a giant of a man. A good man, the kind folks back here call the salt of the earth. An old soul that knew about the importance of family and community. A man solid as the dirt he farmed and yet soft enough cuddle his newborn grand daughter with the tenderness of giant mama...

To the Banducci family, May gods loving arms be with all of you, Sending our deepest sympathy & luv, May he be resting in peace with our Lord, From JR. IRENE Ornelas & Family
