Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel Obituary

AIKEN, Mr. Rodney "Yogi"-age 58, of Ypsilanti, MI passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at U of M Health Systems, Ann Arbor, MI.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 13, 2018 with a 10:00 am family hour at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.   Minister Dexter Clark officiating. The final resting place for Mr. Aiken will be Sunset Hills Association, Flint, MI.

Mr. Rodney Geradus-James Aiken known to friends and family as “Yogi”, was born May 7, 1959 in Albany, New York, the son of Eldora and Leroy Aiken. Yogi passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the age of 58 in Ann Arbor, MI.
Yogi had a giving heart and loved you unconditionally. He was devoted to his family and was an amazing father to his two daughters Sylvania “Winky” (Ray) Aiken and GeRhonda “Rhonda” (Jimmy) Aiken and his grandchildren Sy’Reon Aiken, Ke’Shyra Green, Su’Mya Poochuay, Jahlil and Jalen Sanders. Yogi enjoyed playing basketball, listening to music, loved his cars and reading his bible. He also enjoyed spending time and calling his sister Yvonne “Poopie” (Barry) Martin of Newport News, VA and his brother Leroy “Junie” Aiken of Mt. Morris, MI.  Yogi worked construction with his uncle and later at General Motors. He was known around Mt. Morris (The Country) as the star basketball player in high school. He enjoyed hanging out and spending time David and Dennis Irvin, he was also the godfather to their children. Yogi was loved and cared for by many people in his life. A special thank you to his children’s mother Margaret Mack who helped their daughters care for him.

Yogi leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Sylvania and GeRhonda Aiken; grandchildren, Sy’Reon, Ke’Shyra, Su’Mya, Jahlil, and Jalen; sister, Yvonne (Barry) Martin; brother, Leroy Aiken; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Yogi was preceded in death by his parents, Eldora and Leroy Aiken and biological father, Delos Willingham Jr.
