Roger ALLNUTT

I'm so sorry to read this. Roger and I were in the same class at the Friends' School in Hobart throughout primary and secondary school. More than that - we were longterm rivals to "come top" of the class in Maths exams. We actually both finished up as enthusiastic writers - Roger as a travel writer and me as a social historian, both with an interest in China. RIP

I edited Roger's copy for many years at Travel Weekly in the U.S. I always looked forward to his tales of exploring destinations that were off the beaten path in China and other exotic locales. Roger was always a pleasure to work with, prompt in his responses and receptive to any suggestions I might have. I also had a very enjoyable lunch with him and his wife, Helen, on one of their trips to New York; was so glad for a chance to meet with him after many years of long-distance correspondence....
