I was very saddened to hear of Roger's passing. As a Hughes Family Market employee I was able to witness first hand the generous, caring man with a smile that could light up a room. His passion for work and family set a standard for all to reach. There was never a time that he would not stop and acknowledge your efforts. I so respect the leadership and role model he set. My deepest sympathy and prayers to the Hughes Family.
Sincerely, Rose Gamboa

As a former employee of Hughes Family Markets from 1987-1997, I am devastated to hear of Mr. Hughes passing. He was always a consummate gentleman and he will be missed. May God be with his family in this time of sorrow & loss.

Roger was an honorable colleague and competitor. I always enjoyed working with him.

I worked for Roger at Hughes #10 in Chatsworth at Canoga and Devonshire from March of '91 til the company was sold. I was amazed when I went to visit the HOWS in Canyon Country and ran into him near the entrance and he still remembered my name! He was one of the best bosses I ever had. My prayers and condolences to the entire Hughes family. Thank you Roger for everything.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Roger Hughes. I spent 34 years of my life working for either Hughes or HOWS Markets. The Hughes family was a big part of that period of my life and I have many fond memories of my time with them. My heart goes out to the family and I will keep you all in my prayers.

I write this today having been notified by my friend Paul (Roger's son) of his fathers passing. I compose this passage with a heavy heart for a man who I had the utmost respect for. He and the entire Hughes family welcomed me in their home, treating me like a member of their family.
Roger always inquired about my well being and was proud of my business accreditation and accomplishments. The last few times I saw him I could sense how proud he was of his grandchildren as they graduated...

I very much enjoyed my time with Roger in the 70's. He was a delight to work for, and he taught me much alot about the industry. My best to his family.
